[Platinum cosplay] The Archer of Arknights, the moment the bowstring is drawn

Staring at this convention photo, the moment my hand grips the bowstring makes it feel as if I've returned to the anime convention floor from a few days ago. Although this set of convention photos drop has indeed been delayed for quite a while, seeing the final images makes me feel that all the waiting was well worth it. Today, I want to chat with everyone about the styling and the thoughts behind this Arknights Platinum cosplay shoot.

This time, we created the character Platinum, and the most core visual focus of the entire look is the large area of white and black techwear color-clashing. The top features a sharp, midriff-baring short design, which, combined with the outer white tactical coat, gives a highly layered silhouette when worn. To match the character's inherent high mobility, the lower body selects white shorts paired with long black over-the-knee socks and thick-soled black lace-up ankle boots. The black-and-white proportion is controlled just right, possessing both the sharpness of tactical gear and the character's unique elegance and agility as an Anime girl.

Of course, aside from the long white hair and upright beast ears, the most eye-catching element on the whole body is that extremely fluffy white beast tail in the back. To avoid getting the tail dirty at the crowded convention, it truly took a lot of thought. The black compound bow in my hand is the soul of the entire look; this prop has a highly complex mechanical structure, being not only massive in size but also considerably heavy. When posing for the drawing action, I had to continuously engage my core strength to steady my center of gravity, while intentionally maintaining the tension of the fully drawn bowstring, which places high demands on the lines of the upper arms and shoulders.

The entire makeup look also took quite a bit of effort. To restore the sharp feeling of that non-human character, I wore golden colored contacts, and the eye makeup emphasized the contours of the eye shape. The wig is a very pure white hair, styled with straight bangs to better echo the character's maidenly yet crisp vibe. The beast ears were secured into the wig using hairpins, ensuring they wouldn't shift or tilt in the crowded convention.

This shoot was completed inside a large exhibition hall, and you can see that blue-and-white industrial-style ceiling and round lighting fixtures in the background of the photos. In truth, the convention venue was extremely noisy with a massive flow of people moving back and forth. However, the photographer, 'Saigyouji Yaoyao ko' (西行寺耀耀子), was excellent at candid shots, utilizing a wide aperture to beautifully blur the background while taking advantage of the hall's native blue ambient light to give the entire frame's color tone a cold, rigid sci-fi atmosphere.

Among the several sets of movements during this session, I am personally most satisfied with the moment of drawing the bow to aim and the perspective of the half-squatting sitting pose. Drawing the bow requires an exceptionally focused gaze, which beautifully reveals the character's calm temperament; the sitting perspective, on the other hand, can better showcase the leg lines, over-the-knee socks, and the structure of the boots. This on-the-spot style of cosplay photography, compared to a meticulously planned studio shoot, adds a note of improvised naturalness and storytelling.

As a player who passionately loves cosplay, when facing every instance of character restoration, I hope for more than just external similarity; it is more important to capture the unique spirit and energy of the character itself. Arknights' Platinum is an archer who appears chic and casual to outsiders but is extremely determined and focused internally. This shoot also attempted to use body language in front of the lens to approach her sense of freedom and sharpness.

Looking back at this set of convention photos again, although the shooting process was exhausting—carrying a giant bow around to find angles until my arms were incredibly sore—leaving behind these handsome moments still gives a great sense of accomplishment. No gorgeous studio backdrops, and no post-processing that renders it unrecognizable; this is the most authentic and intuitive state of cosplay at an anime convention.
