This set of Yao Jiayin photos was completed on the streets of Tangxia, Guangzhou. Before heading out, there wasn't really a highly detailed plan. The photographer NightDiva said the streets and the red phone booth there had a great feel, so we thought we'd go try our luck. As it turned out, although that road was indeed a bit short, the usable framing and street vibe were already quite sufficient.
The overall styling this time features a long, straight black wig with a white headband. The straight-cut bangs paired with the reddish eye color match the black-and-white color-clashing clothing quite well. The white top features ruffles and lace-up designs, and the row of metal rings at the collar adds a touch of delicate tech-wear vibe to the anime-style look. The lower body consists of a multi-layered short skirt made of glossy black material, complemented by white lace trim, along with a bow tie and star decorations at the waist, making the whole outfit look very sharp. The pearl chain leg accessory on one side of my thigh is a small detail I personally adore; paired with black patent leather high heels, it beautifully elongates the leg proportions on camera. The metal ring prop held in my hand felt quite smooth, but having to maintain posture balance while coordinating with the candid captures did slightly test my physical stability.
The bus stop and red phone booth over here in Tangxia are truly a perfect match for this outfit. The cool, grayish-white street background, accented by traffic lights and the red phone booth, happens to set off the black-and-white clothing to look even cleaner and sharper. The photographer NightDiva is excellent at utilizing low-angle worm's-eye views in composition; this perspective naturally showcases my leg length and bodily advantages without me having to deliberately force a pose. Because the overall space of the street was limited, the shooting process was basically about squeezing into any available pocket of space. We found great camera setups on the crosswalk, in front of the bus stop sign, and even at the corner of the staircase handrails. At that time, when standing on one leg or looking back in the middle of the road, I actually needed to concentrate to steady my center of gravity. Fortunately, the shoes fit quite well, allowing me to naturally complete these movements by leveraging balance.
The combination of red eyes and slightly cool eye makeup gives the overall temperament an inherent sense of aloofness. When walking through outdoor streets, there is no need to deliberately chase after some grand background; the natural fusion of light and street scenes is already excellent. Although the shooting duration wasn't exceptionally long, my tacit understanding with the photographer was quite sufficient, making the overall output rhythm just right. Especially in the shot where I slightly lean sideways and peek half my body out of the red phone booth, it perfectly captured that subtle atmosphere of the character wandering in the gap between reality and the two-dimensional world. As for the shot looking back at the bus stop, the background is softly blurred by the large aperture, making the entire city's light and shadow quiet down, blending the character's cool-toned traits quite comfortably.
Finding a photographer who clicks well with you for a collaboration work is truly a rare thing. Recording the character on familiar city streets through the lens makes the entire process comfortable without too much tense baggage. Although the streets over here in Tangxia were indeed a bit short, the usable scenes and light and shadow were not wasted at all. It was an incredibly smooth-paced and pleasantly cooperative collaboration experience for this cosplay photography.
