[Evernight cosplay] Blooper Memories and Photoshoot Moments at Jiangmen Jieyuan Comic Exhibition

The day at Jiangmen Jieyuan Comic Exhibition was truly painful yet joyful. Although I joked in the comment section long ago that "the ribbons broke, the jellyfish flew away, and I just kept crying," looking at the final finished photos makes me feel those tears weren't shed in vain.

Let's talk about the costume details first, since the premise of cosplaying is to present the character's original design as much as possible. The jacket features black and dark gray paneling, with leather-textured piping along the placket and edges to add quality. The inner white shirt collar is crisp with puffy lantern sleeves at the cuffs, while the red-black-white color-blocked bowtie at the chest has a highly complex structure, accented by a 3D red flower that took immense effort to craft. For ease of movement, I added safety shorts inside, but the white pleated mini skirt paired with a white thigh-highs outfit vibe keeps the overall look visually harmonized. Black half-finger leather gloves worn on hands feature silver metal buckles on the back, small accessories that truly elevate the character's temperament.

Next is hair and makeup. To match the original character's light pink long hair, I specifically smoothed the wig, making the exaggerated black floral headpiece on top very eye-catching. For makeup, beyond foundation, the focus was on eye detailing—using reddish eyeshadow to blend around outer eye corners combined with a unique eyeliner style to recreate a cool, detached sense of distance. Since on-site lighting was complex, I added slightly more highlighter so facial contours would pop better during candid shots in Cosplay photography.

However, the actual situation at the convention was indeed helpless. Props were carefully prepared, but the buckle securing the long ribbon loosened while walking or posing, causing that long ribbon to snap midway and immediately ruin the moment. Even more exaggeratedly, a decorative little "jellyfish" accessory on the black-and-red umbrella flew straight off when I changed poses; I was completely stunned at the time. Looking at the snapped ribbon and lost prop on the floor, a rush of frustration overwhelmed me, and I almost broke down in public, crying while packing up my things.

Fortunately, I booked a very reliable photographer, NightDiva, for this shoot. We found spots in darker areas inside the hall, using on-site lighting and ambient atmosphere for Cosplay photography. Candid capture efficiency during the shoot was high; sitting on a black A-frame stepladder holding the umbrella and red roses, stretching legs out or slightly bending knees, the photographer patiently guided my posture adjustments. The light, shadow, and facial expressions in these final photos were captured very accurately. Especially in the full-body sitting composition on the stool, leg silhouettes and socks really stood out against dark backgrounds, contrasting nicely with red-bottomed high heels and dark-toned attire.

Post-production editing was also independently completed by myself. To maintain overall ambiance, I avoided excessive skin smoothing, retaining natural skin textures while adjusting color temperature and shadow details to create a quiet, serene atmosphere. Although chaos ensued on site and costumes/props met an unfixable "battle-damaged" end, freezing a beloved character into images remains deeply meaningful. I hope there will be more offline events like Jiangmen Jieyuan Comic Exhibition in the future to showcase cosplay in even more engaging ways.
