This time shooting Rei Ayanami's combat suit, the most intuitive feeling is that this outfit wraps around the figure extremely tightly. The splicing design of glossy patent leather and translucent mesh requires extra care when putting on and taking off, especially in the hollowed-out areas at the waist and abdomen where the flesh-colored mesh has limited tension and is prone to wrinkles or shifting with slightly large movements. Therefore, during shooting breaks, I kept adjusting details in front of the mirror to ensure the clothing closely adhered to the body to present the best curves. For the wig, I chose a short light blue one. After thinning the hair strands, they were trimmed to have layers, just clinging to both cheeks. Paired with red contact lenses, when grooming makeup and hair in front of the mirror, that cool, glamorous, and somewhat distant temperament came right out.
The prop spear is heavier than expected, and its red lacquer surface is very eye-catching under spotlights. However, to hold it steadily and strike a powerful pose, the wrists must constantly keep exerting force, and after shooting a few takes, my arms were indeed a bit sore. We chose a heavy industrial sci-fi-styled metal setting with an anti-slip steel plate floor, and in the background were thick iron chains, yellow warning barrels, and blue fluorescent light tubes. These hardcore elements set a very good tone for the cool tone of the image. The photographer's lighting is very meticulous, adding two cool lights on the side. Initially, I worried that the glossy material on my body would reflect light on a large scale and become a disaster, but in the actual final photos, the light and shadow happened to land right between the cold hardness and texture feel, with the highlight parts actually emphasizing the three-dimensional tailoring of the costume.
When shooting multiple angles, I found that a sideways glance-back pose has more dynamic tension than standing straight facing forward, because the red shoulder armor on the back and the large hollow-outs at the waist form great geometric lines when turning, visually making the legs look slender. Wearing long boots and performing a single-knee kneeling action actually tests core strength quite a bit, because the soles are relatively hard and slippery, and the center of gravity must remain steady on the back leg and the ball of the foot, otherwise it's very easy to lunge forward. When the spear is braced against the ground, a proper fulcrum must also be found to ensure the posture is both taut and natural.
The entire shooting process went smoothly. Although wearing this costume inside was stuffy and hot, seeing the contrast formed between the cold and hard sci-fi mechanical elements and the bare skin in the final photos, along with the futuristic sense brought by the glossy material, made me feel that all this physical exhaustion and heat were totally worth it. This time in front of the lens, I tried controlling my emotions, without too much facial expression fluctuation, relying more on my gaze to convey that quiet yet firm sense of power. From wig trimming to equipment dressing and undressing, I am still very satisfied with the restoration degree of the character's styling myself.
