The focus of this Lynette Cosplay shoot was placed on recreating the stage atmosphere of the magician theme, with everything from clothing texture to scene construction undergoing repeated adjustments. Today, I mainly want to share some interesting details encountered during the shooting process of this set of photos, as well as some insights regarding this costume styling.
Let's talk about the costume first. Lynette's look in Genshin Impact has a strong sense of layering. The white collared shirt on the upper body, paired with the striking blue bow tie, instantly grabs the visual center. The black leather-textured corset vest reflects a subtle matte luster under the lights; to present this high-end texture in front of the lens, we deliberately used neutral light to reinforce its silhouette. The gold crests on the clothes, the black-and-blue pleated skirt on the lower body, paired with thigh rings and platform lace-up combat boots—this crispness unique to a magician's professional attire heavily tests the tailor's grasp of 3D draping. The shoulders of the top are slightly crisp, visually enhancing the head-to-shoulder ratio, making it an excellent showcase of Anime-style fashion.
In terms of hair and makeup, Lynette's iconic silver-white hair color, paired with the small gold crown hair ornament on top of her head, makes the overall look appear highly lightweight. For this makeup and styling setup, I abandoned overly heavy eyeshadow and focused on crisp eyeliner and perfectly defined eyelashes, cooperating with a slightly cool-toned lip color, wanting to recreate a bit of the magician's sharpness and subtle pride. The hair on top actually received a bit of volumizing treatment, so even if the range of motion was large during shooting, the wig wouldn't look deflated.
For the scene layout, we specially built a vintage theater atmosphere. The deep red velvet curtains paired with golden tassels deliver a full sense of stage tension. The black-and-white checkerboard paved on the floor is a classic element, and this powerful color contrast perfectly matches the color scheme of this outfit. A vintage gold photo frame and a cluster of blue-and-white dried flowers were added to the bottom left of the frame as a foreground; on one hand, this increases spatial depth, and on the other hand, this somewhat cluttered and decaying arrangement conversely creates a surreal magical dreamscape. Of course, those poker cards scattered in the air were composited in post-production. To ensure they didn't look completely like stickers, we integrated the actual light source direction and depth-of-field blur during compositing, letting the texture of the cards blend into the background instead of abruptly floating in mid-air.
Regarding action snapshots, when shooting characters with specific action settings, the hardest part is actually finding that "frozen moment" feel. The movements in the four pictures have different focuses: the first one throws cards while holding a high top hat, showing extended and dynamic body lines; the action of holding the hat to the chest appears more quiet and elegant; the postures of gripping the hat with one hand and jumping on one leg find a balance between relaxation and tension. Personally, I am quite satisfied with the jumping picture because maintaining a single-leg standing posture in front of the red curtain requires not only controlling the body's center of gravity but also making the expression look completely effortless for this Cosplay photography session.
A large part of the credit for this light and shadow atmosphere actually goes to the use of backlighting and side rim lighting. During shooting, a side-backlight was placed around the figure, tracing the blue lines along the edges of the clothes and the luster of the hair. Thus, against the deep red curtain background, the character instantly pops out without blending into a mess with the background. The black-and-white floor's reflection was also specially processed, making the platform texture of the shoes feel even more substantial.
All in all, this set of images is definitely not as simple as merely putting on a piece of clothing; it's more about wanting to capture Lynette's confident and composed state on stage under the magician theme. Having the opportunity to work with the team to shoot this character's atmospheric feel counts as achieving a highly wonderful attempt.
