[Arknights cosplay] Six Years of Dedication: Evolution of cosplay from Early Straightforward Looks to Cinematic Depth

Organizing six years of Arknights cosplays and looking back at the photos from 2019 versus 2025, the span in visual style is truly immense. The overall expression in 2019 mainly relied on high-saturation colors, post-processed smoke backgrounds, and straightforward poses. The goal back then was simple: to let viewers instantly recognize who was being cosplayed. Faithfulness of costumes and props came first, while expressions and posture were relatively raw and unpolished. Recently, the aesthetic pursuit has clearly shifted—now favoring light, shadow, and environmental atmosphere to convey character aura.

Take the underwater shot as an example: before shooting, we had to repeatedly test waterproof equipment and adjust underwater light refraction angles, all while holding my breath in short bursts, nailing expressions, and maintaining poses—pure physical endurance combined with technique. Another example is the wasteland-themed set, where the photographer used an extreme low-angle perspective paired with the metallic structures of industrial buildings and red lighting; looking down into the lens from beneath immediately brought out an oppressive tension. Then there's the conceptual series shot inside a picture frame, requiring multi-asset compositing in post-production and precise pre-shoot lighting planning. It's no longer just putting on clothes and clicking the shutter; it feels more like completing a collaborative Anime-style photography project.

Over these six years, my understanding of costume, hair, makeup, and props has also deepened. In the past, I might have cared more about mainstream aesthetics, but now I focus more on textures, such as the natural drape of fabrics and weathering effects on accessories. Although the photo-producing journey has been grueling—shivering in the freezing winter outdoors, crawling around dusty ruins, or enduring blinding glare—seeing the final polished results achieved with the team brings an immense sense of accomplishment.

This six-year Evolution of cosplay is not just an improvement in personal technical skill, but a deeper comprehension of 'cosplay' itself. In the past, it was about imitation; now, it's about finding common ground between the character's mindset and my own, striving to convey core emotional depth through gazes, subtle micro-movements, and unconventional framing. Thanks to every photographer, retoucher, and support staff I've met over these six years—constant communication sparked countless fresh ideas. Sorting through these photos serves as a chronicle of six years of shooting memories. I'm grateful I persevered and genuinely feel these six years brought tremendous personal growth, greatly enhancing my professionalism. Looking at the span across these photos, every bit of dedication was well worth it. I will keep maintaining this creative drive—ready for the next shoot!
