The key to this Xishi cosplay shoot featuring the Return like water skin was how to utilize handheld props and body language to convey the character's serene, aloof elegance and ethereal grace. To complement the White stockings and high heels, I experimented with various seated and standing postures to emphasize leg elongation and the overall translucency of the scene. The shooting environment was primarily split into two parts: the first part was set in a bamboo grove, complemented by classical bamboo chairs, calligraphy fabric drapes, and an oiled-paper umbrella adorned with plum blossoms to evoke a refreshing wuxia aesthetic; the other part featured a white wrought-iron backdrop filled with abundant white drapes and flower clusters under bright, high-key lighting to weave a dreamy, celestial wonderland ambiance.
The biggest challenge during the shoot was balancing the lightweight, airy flutter of the dress with the texture of the White stockings. To achieve better visual results, I intentionally adjusted my sitting posture—such as crossing my legs or extending them forward—which not only visually elongated leg proportions under the lens, but also accentuated details like the pale blue sheer sleeve wraps and the ankle bows. The translucent dragon horn accessories on top had to be securely fastened to the wig; even slightly larger movements could shift them, so I kept my posture upright while subtly managing facial expressions. Regarding the detail about not taking mid-lane farm, which is quite a crucial element in Honor of Kings, my gestures holding the paper umbrella and mirror closely referenced the character's standing pose, hoping to recreate the sensation of lightly treading over water waves.
In post-processing, color grading leaned toward high-key exposure and cool tones, eliminating redundant shadows to render the white dress with finer detail. Incorporating elements like the oiled-paper umbrella and bamboo made the entire shoot feel very much like stepping into a role-playing game. I gradually explored how to align my expressions with the character's persona—sometimes composed and reserved, other times slightly playful. The mirror prop played a vital role in this photo set, utilizing reflections to add depth and layering to the composition. This shooting experience gave me a deeper admiration for Xishi's skin design; the blend of white and pale blue is truly distinctive, and every snap captured an ethereal, celestial charm in this Anime-style photography.
