[Nian cosplay] Arknights The Sui Siblings Convention Photo: Dashing Styling with a Colossal Greatsword

The convention photo shoot for Nian's gear focused primarily on conveying battle tension and body proportions. A cropped red top was paired with a flowing white duster coat; the red geometric motifs on the coat were custom-applied so they would stand out sharply under convention hall lighting. Black leather harness straps along the waist and a hip pouch printed with "NIAN" served as key styling accents. The wig was styled into a high silver-white ponytail, while the twin red hairpieces and pointed dragon horns/ears required ample patience to adjust, anchored securely with bobby pins to keep their placement natural. The shorts were chosen in a tailored cut to allow easy movement throughout the crowded hall, complemented by white boots with red and black linework that echoed the jacket.

The most demanding element was the colossal red-and-white greatsword prop held in my left hand. Built over an EVA foam core with heavy layered paintwork, the red sections received multiple coats while the silver sheen was brushed with metallic lacquer. Because of its massive scale, it had substantial heft, placing considerable strain on my wrist during posing. To keep the blade from completely obstructing my torso, we continually micro-adjusted shooting angles. The smaller accessory held in the right hand was fully matched, with its red-and-black palette seamlessly unifying the look.

For makeup, matching the silver-white hair, I intensified the red eyeshadow blending along the outer corners and elongated the eyeliner slightly to give the gaze a sharper, more formidable edge suited to her imposing presence. Rather than aiming for a soft, demure expression, I kept my demeanor cool and composed, striking expansive poses that matched the weight of the weaponry.

The convention environment was bustling with predominant overhead top-lighting, so I angled my face slightly away from direct overhead beams to avoid harsh shadows. Leaving some blurred crowds and ceiling fixtures in the frame preserved authentic convention ambiance. In terms of posing, shifting my center of gravity—resting the smaller weapon across the shoulder while anchoring the greatsword downward with one leg slightly bent—brought out strong, dynamic lines.

In post-processing, we bumped the contrast between the red and white hues and subtly dialed down background distractions to let the subject pop cleanly, leaning into a slightly gritty, crisp texture. This high-saturation, high-contrast grading complements a character defined by wild, unbridled charisma. While there is always room to weather the blade edges further for a battle-worn look, this convention photoshoot successfully harmonized the prop's mass with bodily poise, achieving the visual impact I set out to capture.
