[Nearl the Radiant Knight cosplay] Returning to the Snowy Mountain Summit: The Moment of Gripping the Greatsword

The photos from the 'Descent of the Snowy Mountain 1101' event are out, and I'm sharing this horse-leading shot first. The sun was intense on the day of the shoot, with strong light bouncing off the grass; the vibrant green contrasted clearly against the white horse, giving well-defined light layers. The trickiest part of this gear was the long white cape on my back—it looks most majestic when billowing in the wind or while the horse moves, but it easily tangled in the saddle or reins, requiring many adjustments to find the right drape. The main challenge of shooting in this armor was restricted joint mobility; the greaves and gauntlets carried noticeable weight, and holding the greatsword for long periods made my arms ache. Cosplaying Nearl the Radiant Knight required studying the original character art extensively beforehand; the armor plates on the chest and legs are intricate, taking plenty of time to align patterns and proportions. Furthermore, the horse was remarkably calm—it wasn't spooked at all seeing me with a greatsword and cooperated nicely during the shoot, though handling the reins took some effort.

I discussed composition with the photographer, aiming to highlight the stern, rugged intensity of battling across the wastelands in the theme of 'The Apex Terran Miner.' Thus, the greatsword rested on the ground while I held the reins, fixing an unyielding gaze straight into the lens without excessive expression. To enhance visual texture, the greaves were deliberately paired with nude stockings, avoiding a stiff look and adding character authenticity to this Stockings cosplay. The venue was gorgeous; the white fence and sky in the background served as a natural backdrop, making the white cape stand out even more. Participating in this event was a unique experience with many fellow fans and a fantastic atmosphere. Walking through the crowds in heavy armor was eye-catching and very warm, so before shooting this set, I carefully combed the wig and checked the ear ornaments, since details define photo quality.

The horse was rented on-site, with a pure white coat matching the character's aesthetic perfectly. Posing while leading a horse is difficult to master—keeping an upright posture while matching the horse's pace—so I chose to stand in place and let the wind catch the cape, which was much steadier. I dislike emotionless pose-only photos, so based on 'The Apex Terran Miner' theme, I envisioned a storyline in my mind about her returning to the mining plains. To coordinate the palette, the black-and-blue ribbons were angled to catch the wind. Every piece of this outfit was carefully coordinated, including the metallic edge highlights that gleamed beautifully under the sun, though slight angle shifts were needed to keep the reflections clean and unblown. The white skirt fabric is lightweight, flowing gracefully in the wind, but walking on grass easily picked up mud, requiring a hem wash afterward.

Since this was a pre-arranged shoot, on-site communication was smooth, and the photographer's mastery of light and shadow was very professional. He advised wearing black gloves to grip the heavy greatsword, adding solid visual weight under sunlight. Although shooting in full armor was exhausting and caused plenty of sweating, seeing the character's imposing aura in the final photos made all the effort worthwhile. This experience gave me more insight into shooting in heavyweight armor, helping me handle poses more naturally for future mech-armored characters. The photographer's timing was spot-on, capturing the shutter at the exact moment the cape billowed widest. This gear has accompanied me to many conventions and holds countless memories. We even celebrated with hotpot after wrapping up, making for a smooth and satisfying photoshoot journey for Arknights fans.
