[Asuka Cosplay] Punk Rock Band Theme in Neon Genesis Evangelion Style: A Self-Record in the White Studio

Completed this styling record inspired by a rock band in front of the white wall of a photography studio. The chosen theme this time leans toward a punk rock style, while preserving the character's iconic orange-red long hair and blue eye makeup. For the outfit, I selected a cropped black patent leather jacket with a white collar stitched in red, paired with a midriff-baring short inner top and a red-and-black plaid necktie. Combined with the unique luster of leather, the overall look feels crisp and tough. For the lower body, I matched it with a pleated miniskirt stitched with red-and-black plaid and black leather. The studded leather belt around the waist and the draped metal chains are arguably the soul of this look, adding to the rebellious vibe of punk rock. The asymmetrical details on the legs are also very interesting; one leg features stockings stitched with a knee-pad design, while the other is fitted with a leather leg ring, showing excellent texture under the studio lighting. The bass prop in my hands was also carefully selected; its black-and-white body and checkered strap align perfectly with the visual elements of the overall outfit.

During the shooting process, we deliberately arranged a white studio photography environment. Although a white studio looks simple, it actually places extremely high demands on lighting and expressions. We needed to completely rely on the lights to bring out the three-dimensional depth of the figure and the texture of the leather, preventing the image from looking flat. Through the arrangement of light positions, the photographer fully brought out the luster of the patent leather, forming a wonderful contrast between shadows and reflections. For the posing reference, I intentionally designed several states: one is a more casual, close-up shot holding the hat brim, highlighting the face and upper body; one is a dynamic moment while playing the instrument, such as standing on one leg and letting the wig scatter during movement; and another is sitting on a white cylindrical platform, reflecting a slightly relaxed mood. The advantage of a white studio is that it allows one to focus attention entirely on the costume, props, and expressions without any scene interference.

Managing the wig also required quite a lot of thought. While combing through this long straight orange-red hair, I needed to maintain the volume of the twin tails. This time, I intentionally let the strands keep a wind-blown, messy look to match the rock theme, rather than combing it too neatly. For makeup, the focus was on emphasizing the eye contours, utilizing a western-style eyeshadow technique combined with blue contact lenses to maximize the replication of the original character's gaze. There are a few poses from this shoot that I am quite satisfied with, such as playing the bass with one hand and sitting on the steps while slightly tilting my head back to look into the lens—both beautifully bring out the expressive, bold vibe of the entire look. Overall, this costume design fuses academy style with a punk rock style, making it highly visually enduring under the balance of black, red, and white. Archiving these materials from the white studio allows me to clearly see many styling details, serving as a great reference for subsequent shoots in more complex scenes. Thanks to the photographer for the patient capture and lighting coordination this time; it truly feels like the character's cool essence and fashion sense have been frozen in time.
