The theme of this shoot was placing Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion into a Rock band setting. When I first conceptualized this setting, I wanted to break away from her usual quiet and detached impression, imagining what she would look like picking up a guitar or standing in front of a drum kit. Having completed the actual shoot, I find that this contrast of an "ice-faced rocker" is actually more captivating. For props, I specially found a Retro radio, paired with a denim-patched performance costume and her iconic blue wig. The overall visual vibe leans heavily into retro disco or underground indie bands. The studio lighting was set up very cleanly. The rim lighting beautifully showcased the transparency of the hair and the texture of the outfit. The most amusing part of the shooting process was having to hold that big radio all the time; it's quite heavy, so striking casual poses actually heavily tested my core strength. To match this street rock atmosphere, I also prepared a chibi plushie to sit next to me, looking like a little fan supervising the work. This look actually has a lot of details—such as the red straps on the arm sleeves and leg covers, and the blue ribbon at the collar—all infusing punk elements while restoring the character. Wearing a midriff-baring outfit with shorts requires paying special attention to body lines and the extension of your overall posture to avoid looking bloated. Blending Rei Ayanami's cool detachment with the fervor of rock music is the visual core I wanted to express this time, serving as an alternative interpretation of her character traits. I hope this set of Anime-style photography allows everyone to experience a different kind of aesthetic. She remains silent, but in this parallel universe, she has her own rhythm and beat.
