Participating in this shoot at the Kyushu Auto Ecology Expo (Part 8) injected the hardcore vitality of an Auto show cosplay into Asuka Cosplay. The red-and-white combat suit chosen this time not only features the classic "02" designation, but its texture is also very close to the combat plugsuit from the original work. Because we were shooting Asuka beside a modified car, the overall hair and makeup were specifically sharpened to make the gaze look fiercer, naturally carrying the commanding aura of piloting Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Coordinating with that red modified car on set, I tried various poses—such as sitting on the hood in this shot, utilizing the window reflections and lustrous car paint gloss, combined with a high-angle shot looking up to elongate the leg lines beautifully. Other poses, like leaning forward against the car window or reaching one hand toward the camera, required strong core support to maintain stability and project a confident, tsundere temperament. Speaking of which, the on-site lighting was very complex; to maintain a cool, fair skin texture, cool-toned contouring and highlights were applied during makeup. Working through several pose sequences with the photographer helped us find the perfect perspective that felt natural while seamlessly fitting the race queen atmosphere.
This environment truly tested a cosplayer's adaptability on the spot, as the auto show background was quite busy; presenting clean visuals required constantly adjusting angles to avoid the cluttered crowd. For Asuka's signature twin-tails, I specifically used two red hair clips to secure them so the hair wouldn't get messy during transitions, while maintaining wonderful dynamic motion even when moving. Although walking around the car in a skirt was a bit chilly and the suit was form-fitting, seeing the final results made everything feel worthwhile. During the shoot, I also learned posing tips from experienced exhibitors nearby—such as relaxing and dropping the shoulders to highlight natural curves. The entire shoot was not only about cosplay, but also a collision between character personality and automotive industrial texture. I hope these visuals convey that unique sense of power belonging to Asuka.
