For this Asuka Cosplay shoot, we chose a heavy machinery factory in the outskirts as our location. At night, red and blue neon lights cast across rusted steel leviathans, immediately dialing up the clash between industrial wasteland and futuristic technology. To match the distinctive spirit of Neon Genesis Evangelion, every garment detail was repeatedly fine-tuned before shooting. The orange wig carries high saturation; trimming the bangs and setting the positions of the two black hairclips took hours of scrutinizing the source art—details like these only feel reassuring when refined hands-on.
In makeup, to keep my face clean under the dual red and blue light sources, the base was prepped cleaner than usual, focusing heavily on eye adjustment. Reddish eyeshadow blended with blue contact lenses had to pop under intense lights and hold up even in tight close-up shots. The subtle freckle makeup across my cheeks was my own request, adding a touch of grounded realism. The wardrobe combined a red-and-black plaid pleated skirt, leather corset belt, and studded choker, complemented by tall black Stockings and leg garters for a rugged, rebellious edge. Although the platform boots were heavy, they visually elongated the legs wonderfully.
The most exhausting part of the shoot was the sequence lying on the concrete ground. To achieve the diagonal composition lying back with legs raised, my core and lower back were constantly flexing to control the silhouette of my legs while keeping facial expressions relaxed so nobody could tell I was gritting my teeth. Photographer Zhu.SAMA excelled at sculpting with light, having me position my skin along the transition borders between warm and cold light to create sharp terminator lines. Framed by mechanical gears and iron chains, relaxing my body naturally against the icy steel allowed that subtly hazardous, fractured vibe to surface.
In one shot, I sat atop massive orange machinery under amber-red lights; while the atmosphere appeared warm and glowing, the steel was actually freezing, requiring immense facial expression control to endure. The wind was intense that night, constantly tousling the wig, forcing us to pause every few shots to tidy hair and skirt hems to keep the outfit immaculate. In another shot where I lean against a pillar with eyes closed, I was honestly just shutting my eyes to dodge a direct beam of blue light, which happened to be candidly captured as a mood piece.
Special thanks to 花见づ for modeling presence and Zhu.SAMA's camera eye, bringing our creative vision to life within a limited setting. Post-processing primarily boosted the red-blue contrast while retaining organic skin textures without excessive liquifying. Behind each photo lay hours of shivering in the cold and recalibrating poses, but seeing the resulting Cyberpunk light and shadow and tactile richness made every minute worthwhile. Blending an Industrial style setting with Cyberpunk light and shadow alongside Asuka's combat prowess made for a truly exceptional cosplay journey.
