[Asuka Cosplay] Neon Genesis Evangelion, Rainy Group Cosplay Photos

The weather was very gloomy throughout the shooting day, and halfway through, it started raining quite heavily. Although we didn't get the sunny weather we originally planned, the overcast sky paired with the massive concrete bridge piers ended up creating a chilling and realistic apocalyptic scene. Coincidentally, the movie is releasing tomorrow, so sharing this set of photos now is perfectly timely. There were seven people in our group this time, and everyone prepared very diligently, striving to faithfully restore everything from costumes and wigs to prop details. Asuka's twintails and iconic red-and-white color palette, paired with white stockings, were exceptionally eye-catching in the dim light; the woman in the black dress with red gloves, Rei Ayanami's blue hair and blue dress, and the boys in white shirts—standing together, it vividly captured the atmosphere of the original work. As the rain grew heavier during the shoot, we had no choice but to take shelter under the bridge's pillars, everyone holding umbrellas to protect their wigs for fear of the rain ruining the makeup. Taking advantage of lulls in the rain, we quickly snapped several more shots, capturing a sharp, somber mood with streaks of rain. One set of photos was taken by the reddish waterfront, where the dark red water had an intense visual impact, paired with the distant steel megastructures, looking just like a real-life scene during the Final Impact. The wind was extremely strong at the time; to keep our styling intact, we had to stabilize our centers of gravity while paying attention to everyone's positioning and expressions. In post-processing, we mainly preserved a cool, desaturated grey tone, allowing the iconic red, blue, and black to become the visual focal points. This oppressive, slightly industrial wasteland vibe actually fits the serious theme of the work much better than fresh sunlight. The hardest part of shooting group portraits is coordinating everyone's posture and eye lines; everyone worked together for a long time before achieving a satisfying composition. A photo where everyone interacted with colored thin threads was also very interesting; standing among wild grass and transmission towers, it vividly restored the subtle bonds between the youth. As an outdoor group shoot, while the weather wasn't ideal, the atmospheric quality of the finished photos made us all feel it was well worth it. Rather than overt sexiness, the subtle allure created by the lines of the skirt hems and white stockings under cool tones fits the melancholic temperament of the characters much better. Going to the cinema to watch the movie tomorrow, this group shoot serves as a phased commemoration of this classic work.
