Today I'm sharing my Roxy cosplay log from Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. A lot of care went into this look from planning to final selects, handcrafting and styling everything from the wig to prop details step by step. For the wig, I selected a soft light-blue wavy style; replicating the iconic halo-like circlet atop the crown required plenty of hairspray and bobby pins to keep securely pinned, while the twin braids on both sides (Blue hair twin tails) were deliberately kept airy and relaxed to avoid a stiff silhouette. For the makeup, I highlighted bright blue contact lenses and applied a richer wash of blush to capture that porcelain complexion flushed with subtle rosy warmth on camera.
The outfit features intricate layering: the khaki cape is trimmed with black-and-white striped edging, worn over a white collared shirt and a vest with front black buttons. The blue front placket and metallic chain accents at the chest lend an academic weight, anchored beneath by a scalloped black petal skirt. Once worn, it delivers an authentic magic academy flair, though one definitely has to take care not to crease the cape while moving around.
The most labor-intensive piece was undoubtedly the staff prop. The white sculpted headpiece, the white line accents along the black tapered grip, and the dangling blue gem pendants were all handcrafted and assembled piece by piece. Holding it during the shoot required constantly balancing its center of gravity, which genuinely tired out my wrist. Yet the moment I gripped the staff before the camera, the character's tranquil, slightly detached aura surfaced effortlessly in this Wizard cosplay.
This shoot took place right at the Anime convention venue, where photographer @Xiyeyoru excelled at seizing natural ambient lighting and close-ups. We navigated dense crowds to find clean corners away from cluttered backdrops, using wide apertures to cream out distracting elements. To preserve Roxy's understated, tender, and composed demeanor, I kept tight control over my facial muscles—avoiding overly broad smiles, softening my gaze, and tilting my head slightly upward or to the side. Passersby cast curious glances, and someone even called out 'Did you spot me at cpg08d2?', making the convention atmosphere thoroughly delightful.
Pacing your stamina is essential when shooting at conventions: between the layered attire, the weighty wig, and the staff, prolonged standing and posing put real strain on the lower back and arms. A tip for anyone attempting characters with hefty props: take plenty of breathers between takes and rest the staff against a support rather than holding it suspended the whole time, otherwise shaky arms will quickly compromise your facial expressions. Also, if you're outdoors or in drafty halls for extended periods, carry a pocket comb and travel hairspray to touch up stray locks after gusts of wind.
The overall shoot went smoothly with wonderful lighting, and the photographer's mastery of framing and color science ensured the RAW captures already boasted fantastic texture. Cosplaying Roxy fulfilled a cherished wish, bringing the quiet, adorable mage in my imagination into vivid reality.
