For this Chengdu World Line Anime Exhibition, I cosplayed Roxy from Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. The outfit chosen was the white off-the-shoulder ruffle dress from the character art. The fabric is quite lightweight, giving the hem a natural drape when walking. The wig is a custom light blue; to capture Roxy's distinct features, I deliberately shaped the ahoge cowlick on top and the long side braids. For the makeup, I used bright blue colored contacts, kept the base makeup sheer, and paired it with subtle pink blush and a natural orange-toned lip color to suit her overall personality. Managing the wig took considerable time, as light blue heat-resistant synthetic fiber is prone to frizz, requiring hair oil for smoothing and embedded craft wire inside the braids to hold their shape during shooting. The animal ears on top were custom-made with lovely plush texture, matching the wig color inside, and remained comfortable throughout the entire night without pinching.

The shooting location was an open stone-paved plaza outside the exhibition center. Being nighttime with relatively dark surroundings, we laid out a white shaggy rug in the foreground, using a wide-aperture lens to melt distant streetlights and building lights into soft bokeh circles. Nighttime lighting is quite tricky: we placed a softbox in front for gentle key fill and added a dim side light for rim contours, softening facial highlights and preventing skin tones from getting swallowed by the dark backdrop. In posing, I tried to embody Roxy's quiet yet warm presence. The initial set featured kneeling on the rug with hands placed naturally between my knees or lightly touching an ear to create an intimate feel with the camera. Later, I switched to a side-sitting pose extending my legs forward, adding visual dynamism while showcasing the dress's silhouette, white Mary Jane shoes, and lace frill socks. Black backgrounds at night are notoriously unforgiving—a slight lapse can blend the subject into darkness—so reflectors and fill lights were continually repositioned.

The color grading subtly darkened the ambient background while lifting the blue-and-white tones of the character, enhancing the cool, tranquil mood. Shooting event photos at conventions always moves at a rapid pace amid thick crowds, making clean angles hard to come by. Beyond costume accuracy, I place great emphasis on body language and expression management in front of the lens. Across kneeling, turning, and leaning on one hand, every pose demanded balanced weight points; especially on stone pavers, cushioning the knees is an absolute necessity. White dresses can easily blow out highlights during night shoots, requiring strict lighting ratios. I am truly fond of these night photos from the Chengdu convention, as they captured both Roxy's softness and the serene stillness of blue.
