[Panty cosplay] Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt Chief for a Day: The World is Worse Than Me, So Rely on Me

The world is way worse than me, so rely on me.

This time, I'm bringing a set of photos featuring Panty as Chief for a Day from Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. Many people are familiar with this character—her iconic blonde hair, daring outfit, and cynical yet commanding personality make her instantly recognizable in the anime community. For this costume design, while preserving elements of the original police uniform, I intentionally added props and details that reflect my personal style, creating a cool and sharp visual feel.

The first close-up holding a tape measure is one of my favorite angles in this set. It focuses on waist and hand movements, where the dark blue Patent leather miniskirt reflects delicate sheen under studio lights, with subtle leather textures giving the otherwise simple skirt a three-dimensional feel. This patent leather material heavily tests lighting control, and the photographer captured the highlights and shadows beautifully, accentuating waist curves. The skirt is paired with a black studded leather belt and silver metal handcuffs hanging on the side, a combination with the tape measure that adds a strong narrative feel to the photo.

The top white short-sleeved uniform shirt looks crisp and clean, with dark blue spliced cuffs adding layers to the piece. I did some design work on the neckline, leaving it slightly open to reveal a bit of black lace-edged lingerie and a dainty silver necklace. This subtle reveal keeps Panty's sexy tension without looking overly exposed. The thin necklace resting on my chest lights up the front area with subtle metallic reflections, serving as a lovely accent.

The lower body styling is one of the highlights of this outfit. Black fishnet stockings fit tightly against the skin, with medium mesh size that flatters leg lines while visually contrasting in texture with the Patent leather miniskirt. Wearing black ankle boots makes my posture look upright and confident. To reinforce the Chief for a Day concept, I wore a dark blue peaked cap adorned with a gold shield-shaped police badge in the center, presenting the character's identity clearly. The black fingerless leather gloves on my hands are also packed with details, with silver metal rivets embedded across knuckles that look hardcore under light and shadow.

For overall hair and makeup, I used a voluminous bright yellow wig to capture the character's essence. Layering in the wig is crucial—creating volume at the crown with slightly messy hair strands brings out a natural, rebellious anime vibe. For makeup, I went with a semi-matte base, emphasizing skin clarity. For the eyes, I chose light blue eyeshadow echoing the blue-and-white uniform, paired with crisp eyeliner to make the eyes look vivid. Lips were coated in a soft pale pink lip gloss, keeping the overall makeup clean and bright, balancing out the bold hair color.

Action design during the shoot was also fun. For example, in the second photo, I held the brim of the peaked cap with one hand, leaning forward slightly into the lens to capture her confident, tsundere charm. The third photo tried a low-angle shot, creating a commanding perspective that elongated lower body lines. Every time I cosplay a different character, I appreciate their unique charm through coordinating outfits, hair, and poses.

Using "The world is way worse than me, so rely on me" as the theme extends my interpretation of Panty's character. Though she appears carefree, she possesses a heart willing to protect others. This cosplay is not just a costume restoration, but a process of interpreting character depth through the lens. Adjusting poses, controlling lighting, and perfecting details in the studio was hard work, but seeing final photos brought immense accomplishment from high character fidelity.
