This shoot brings to life an official Bunny-girl style photoshoot for Stocking from Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, while catering to the needs of both pose and Drawing reference. The outfit features a black form-fitting bodysuit with high-gloss patent leather sheen, complemented by a white shirt collar, black opera gloves, semi-sheer black over-the-knee Stockings with garter belts, and a glossy bunny ear headband on top. To capture the signature 2D anime feel, the wig was styled with blunt blue bangs transitioning into long pinkish-purple gradient strands, while the makeup emphasized dramatic eye contouring paired with teal contact lenses.
Patent leather fabric heavily tests studio lighting arrangements. Due to its intense surface reflectivity, an improper key light angle can easily create harsh blown-out glare across the chest and abdomen, or even create an unflattering widening effect. Throughout the session, we constantly calibrated the light stands so the highlights hit precisely along the contouring lines we wanted to accentuate. The white faux collar and golden buttons served as vital visual footholds against the sea of black, breaking any visual monotony. The bunny ear headband holds a structured shape, but to ensure it remained upright without flopping across different angles, I added hidden grip clips on the underside to anchor it seamlessly into the wig.
Knowing this set would serve as pose and Drawing reference material, I gave careful thought to the body language. The first full-front standing shot carries weight predominantly on one leg with the other hand placed on the hip, designed primarily to display the complete garment tailoring and fundamental anatomical proportions. The third shot, stepping one leg onto a wooden stool, captures the muscular tension of the leg in a flexed pose alongside the deformation details of the garter Stockings above the knee. The gesture of holding thin-framed glasses introduces an element of contrast and intellectual poise, subverting a purely sensual aesthetic to grant the character richer emotional depth. Artists referencing this look can pay special attention to how glossy fabric folds bunch around the waist and joint bends, which helps tremendously in rendering patent leather textures.
The doughnut proved to be an unexpectedly fantastic prop. An all-black bodysuit paired with stilettos can naturally project a rather stern, intimidating presence; introducing a pink frosted doughnut injected a welcome touch of everyday nonchalance and lively flair. For the shot eating the doughnut, I intentionally looked away from the lens with a drifting gaze and relaxed hands—this candid quality makes it wonderful reference material for avatars or sticker expressions.
Maintaining poise and keeping the outfit wrinkle-free required thorough groundwork before shooting. The bodysuit is exceptionally skin-tight, complex to put on or take off, and offers little breathability, meaning breaks between takes had to be utilized efficiently. Posing with one stiletto-clad foot on a stool for prolonged periods demanded continuous muscular engagement from the instep and calves to ensure the lines appeared sculpted rather than rigid. The garter hooks and stocking edges also had to be smoothed out after each pose change to avoid unflattering pinching or misaligned twists.
The allure of this look stems not merely from the tailoring of the costume, but from controlled composure and body posture. The essence of pose references lies in offering clean anatomical structure and dynamic motion lines; hence, I consciously avoided overly convoluted angles or poses that obscured critical joint bends, ensuring illustrators can clearly observe skeletal and muscular paths. There is an abundance of fine details across this set, and I welcome all artist friends to exchange ideas on posing concepts.
