[Stocking cosplay] The Sweet & Cool Blue hair Girl from Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

I've finally finished retouching the final photos from this studio portrait shoot of my Stocking cosplay. Let's start with the styling: the wig had a dark navy base with pink highlights on the bangs and ends. Creating a natural gradient took considerable time layered by layer. The light blue bow accessory on top of the head had to be pinned securely in a specific spot, otherwise it would easily shift during movement. For makeup, I wore grayish-green contact lenses with pinkish eyeshadow, and kept the foundation quite fair to emphasize an anime aesthetic under high-key studio lights. The outfit featured a layered white puff dress packed with ruffles, alongside blue-and-white waist accents and angel wings attached to the back. White sleeves, metallic armbands, blue-and-white striped Stockings, and silver high-heeled sandals completed an outfit packed with intricate details.

The prop was a long polearm painted with blue-and-white stripes, carrying quite a bit of heft in hand. For the first lunge pose, I had to engage my core firmly—front leg bent, back leg extended straight, holding the weapon horizontally across my chest with both hands. This stance required preventing the skirt from deflating while accentuating the leg lines. With high heels on, controlling balance was tough; the photographer constantly coached my angles to ensure visual tension. The second shot was a high-angle top-down perspective focusing on upper-body details and facial expression—leaning forward slightly with hands folded, keeping a restrained gaze to bring out that sweet-and-cool aura. The third shot was a side squatting pose with one hand touching the ground and the weapon extended back. To capture the dynamic flip of the long hair floating in midair, we shot continuous bursts multiple times before nailing the exact frame.

Since Stocking's character in Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt carries a blend of tsundere, lethargy, and formidable combat strength, I maintained a stern, confident gaze without cracking a smile. The greatest perk of a studio portrait is controlled lighting. We utilized a high-key lighting approach against a pure-white to light-blue backdrop; the even light eliminated harsh silhouettes while leaving plenty of dynamic range for post-processing. However, in such a bright environment, details can easily blow out, so special care went into preserving the textures of the blue-and-white striped Stockings and metallic embellishments.

In preparation, I practiced poses repeatedly in front of a mirror at home, focusing on crouching and standing steadily in high heels without straining my facial expressions. Because of the flared petticoat, my range of motion was restricted, requiring my core to drive body turns. It was physically demanding, but seeing how true-to-character the final lighting and styling turned out made me feel I captured her soul. The color grading took a while to refine so that the freshness of the blue-and-white palette and the character's edge remained intact. This is a straightforward shoot log to share with everyone who loves this aesthetic.
