This white studio session was primarily designed to provide artist friends with dynamic pose references for the JK uniform. Hirasawa Yui's classic yellow knit vest paired with a gray pleated skirt might look simple at first glance, but against a solid white backdrop, it places immense demands on physical body language. The wig was trimmed with blunt straight bangs and pinned with two yellow hair clips on the left side; canonical accuracy essentially relies on nailing these subtle details. To highlight the character's everyday campus routine, I prepared actions like doing homework, holding up test papers, and stretching lazily while perched on a school desk. Sitting before the desk with a pen pressed against my chin is an iconic daydreaming pose, offering richly layered anatomy for hand and wrist construction. Meanwhile, stepping one foot up onto the chair while raising an arm overhead was specifically aimed at demonstrating tension folds across the skirt hem and Black stockings—dynamic gestures that artists heavily seek as Drawing reference.

The sheen of the Black stockings rendered crisp and clear under the high-CRI studio lights; paired with the silhouette of the loafers, it serves as a practical guide for rendering leg anatomy and cast shadows. Props such as the school bag, desk, and chair framed each composition effectively: leaning against the desk, the shift in center of gravity and the casual drape of the bag straps provide great compositional inspiration. Holding up a paper sheet scrawled with doodle expressions added a playful, cheeky mood. When capturing white studio pose references, keeping the subject away from the edges is crucial to leave artists sufficient room for cropping and re-framing, while ensuring movements are expansive enough to clearly articulate fold directions and muscular perspective. From the lighting arrangement to post-processing, I directed the entire workflow myself.

The high-key studio lighting was calibrated to eliminate distracting, chaotic shadows, retaining only the clean highlights needed to reveal the tactile textures of the fabric and hosiery. Posing references are more than mere modeling; they require fluid kinetic continuity so every frozen frame carries narrative weight. For props, I deliberately introduced a dark navy school bag accessorized with heart patterns and charms, providing petite focal points amidst broad color blocks. In seated poses, tucking the bag beneath the desk or slinging it over a desk leg grounded the lower frame, stabilizing the composition. Foot placement was equally vital: whether crossing legs or balancing on tiptoe, the loafer contours combined with the form-fitting Black stockings elongated the legs visually. I softened the ratio between key and fill lights to keep both the pleated skirt layers and the knit sweater texture legible. Covering standing, sitting, leaning, and dynamic stretching poses, I hope this reference set sparks creative ideas for fellow illustrators. The pace was brisk since reference shots prioritize anatomical precision over complex theatrical moods. The pure white backdrop also makes it effortless for artists to extract silhouettes or trace perspective guidelines. I will continue organizing poses from different angles—hope these frames bring inspiration to your artwork!
