【Cirno cosplay】The Summer Magic of Touhou Project's Ice Fairy - Image 1

This time, descending into this summer wild field filled with small purple flowers and lush green grass in the form of Cirno, I had a focused and fun Anime cosplay shoot.

First, let's talk about the styling concept this time. Although the character setting features exaggerated ice abilities, my goal was to materialize the playfulness and exquisiteness of this "strongest" fairy in the three-dimensional world. To match Cirno's iconic light blue tone, I specifically chose a light blue Lolita outfit style dress with white polka dots and multi-layered ruffles. The white doll collar at the neckline looks cute, while the red bow right in the center is the finishing touch of the whole dress, breaking the monotony of the large area of blue and concentrating the visual focus on the upper body. To give the skirt that fluffy, cute volume seen in the anime, I carefully selected the daily petticoat inside. When walking under the outdoor sun, the stacked layers of the skirt hem swing with my steps, full of lightweight dynamism.

The headpiece and wig are the absolute priorities in reproducing the character. That giant light blue bow with white lace edges on top of the head is a classic symbol. I first used a support framework and styling spray to stabilize its shape to prevent it from deforming when the outdoor wind blows. The wig itself was cut into a short hairstyle with straight bangs; while wearing it, I needed to repeatedly adjust the hair volume on both sides to ensure it made my face look small without obscuring too much of the headpiece, reaching a quite ideal state of cooperation with the bow.

Next, let's talk about the highly conspicuous crystal prism props in the frame. For this shoot, I specially prepared four polyhedral crystals made of high-transparency acrylic material, running nearly invisible thin threads through them and utilizing specific angles during shooting to make them appear as if floating in mid-air. In fact, under the scorching noon sun, these prisms genuinely refracted delicate colored light spots onto the grass and skirt hem. The sense of magic at that moment is hard to describe in words. Seeing the illuminated rainbow colors in the viewfinder, I knew this choice of outdoor location was absolutely right.

In terms of makeup, hair, and expressions, to match the character's confident yet slightly "clumsy" tsundere trait, I wore light-colored colored contacts to enhance the brightness and ethereal feel of my gaze. The blush on my face was applied relatively noticeably. Together with the playful gesture of lightly tapping my cheek with my hand, a slightly open mouth, and a single-leg standing posture holding the skirt hem, I tried my best to display Cirno's undisguised vitality and happiness. Repeatedly adjusting these movements in front of the lens, although wearing layers of a dress in the muggy outdoors was indeed very exhausting with sweat sticking to my back, seeing the finished photos with natural expressions in the camera brought nothing but a sense of fulfillment.

The location chosen this time was also a big plus. The vast green vegetation and small purple wild flowers in nature formed a very refreshing contrast backdrop, and the sunlight shining through the gaps in the tree canopy produced very soft and vibrant highlights. When composing, the photographer deliberately lowered the camera position, utilizing a low-angle shot to include both the blue sky and the grass into the background, while also better highlighting the floating crystals and the fluffy skirt hem. This kind of outdoor environment with ample sunlight indeed heavily tests the photographer's light control ability, but fortunately, the team cooperated very tacitly this time, capturing this dream-colored moment after just a few shutter clicks.

Although this attire was quite physically consuming and it took a long time to sort out the wig and skirt hem every time doing an Outdoor portrait shoot, these were all details worth dedicating to in order to present the side closest to the character's cuteness and confidence in front of the lens. Being able to bring this classic character from Touhou Project into the real world in my own way and blend her into this summer scenery was a very satisfying experience.
