When I received this Bai Feng cosplay costume, my first reaction was that the texture is very special. When looking at the original design concept before, I only thought the design was gorgeous, but wearing the actual item with its black-and-white color contrast and off-the-shoulder design, combined with the iconic long silver wig, instantly changed my overall temperament significantly as a silver-haired girl. The white branch-like headpiece on top of my head and the black-and-white striped ribbon on the side actually took quite a bit of thought to secure, but the result is highly photogenic. Paired with the golden-patterned teardrop pendant at the neckline, the accuracy in details is actually quite high.
The studio layout on the day of the shoot was also very thoughtful. The main background was a massive circular full moon backdrop, clustered with branches of white plum blossoms or light-colored cherry blossoms. The Chinese-style wooden lattice windows and dark frames, along with the white plush carpet spread across the floor, created a highly cool, elegant, and soft moonlit atmosphere under the photographer's light control. To be honest, sitting on the fur carpet for the shoot made the mood of the entire scene feel quiet and calm.
Grooming the wig before shooting was also meticulous work. The silver-white long straight hair is actually very easy to overexpose under the lights, so light metering and adjusting the lamp positions alone took almost an hour. To recreate that ethereal feeling of the character, I tried sitting on the fur carpet and also challenged the edge of the Chinese-style green-tiled roof behind me. To highlight the aura of this character, I intentionally struck some relaxed and stretched-out movements, such as semi-leaning against the window frame or sitting on the tiles with crossed legs. The white tights looked exceptionally clean under the cool-toned moonlit lamps, which is a styling detail I love very much this time. The large white bow at the waist and the wide black-and-white cuffs bring out the flowing feel of the clothing between movements; to capture the most natural flow of fabric folds during the shoot, we adjusted the angles back and forth many times.
Working in the studio for a long time, the heavy-crafted headpiece indeed had some weight, but because the on-site lighting setup was very sophisticated, the final cuts turned out to be highly attractive. What I was most satisfied with during the shoot were probably the two photos sitting on the tiled roof. The seemingly casual sitting posture actually required core strength in the abdomen and waist to maintain stability since the tile structure is not flat, but the final sense of lines was truly surprising. In terms of makeup, to coordinate with the overall cool fair skin effect, the colors for eyeshadow and blush were chosen as low-saturation pink-orange, which can both brighten the complexion and avoid looking overly sweet, which would cover up the character's cool and elegant trait.
Before the lens, I tried my best to maintain a calm and soft gaze, not wanting the expression to look too forced, which would disrupt the overall ethereal feeling. This is probably the experience I've fumbled out through continuous shoots: the more you want to achieve an ethereal state, the more you need to relax your muscles from the inside out. This shoot counts as a very smooth collaboration; light, props, makeup, and hair all achieved the expected results under the team's coordination. Now sitting in front of the computer organizing the pictures, although my waist and back are still a bit sore, I feel a great sense of accomplishment regarding the final output. Every detail during the shoot, from the wrinkles of the costume to the placement of the props, was to present the best visual state. This kind of look blending Ancient style cosplay with a bit of fantasy elements has always been my favorite type. If there's an opportunity in the future, I also hope to try the same style in an outdoor real scene, believing there will be a completely different presentation under natural light and gentle breeze. This successful piece of Anime-style photography is a proud addition to my portfolio.
