This photo set of Qingxiao from Wuthering Waves is finally ready to share with everyone! For this studio shoot, we chose a seamless pure white background, primarily wanting to highlight the garment's colors and the airy lightness of its fabrics. The costume features intricate layered construction, utilizing generous sweeps of white sheer gauze and chiffon accented with light blue gradients and golden cloud-pattern embroidery. To achieve that breezy, wind-whipped flutter with the skirt and billowy wide sleeves during shooting, we added discreet safety lining and structural supports inside. The waist ribbons especially required on-set assistants to smooth and reset every few seconds so they formed graceful, dynamic arcs mid-air.
Regarding hair and makeup, the aqua-blue wig demanded meticulous attention. To capture dynamic, windswept hair strands, we not only set the tips with styling spray, but also worked alongside a wind machine on set, continuously snapping frames mid-blow to seize the most organic moments. The dragon horn ornaments and hairpins atop my head were securely anchored, weighed just right to avoid straining my head. The makeup centered on the eyes, wearing blue colored contacts echoing the hair color, with translucent light blue eyeshadow as a base paired with high-gloss highlights, giving the entire complexion an ethereal, crystal-clear glow. A natural soft pink lip color rounded out the look with clean refinement.
Holding the sword poses actually tested wrist strength quite heavily. The sword prop had fantastic tactile quality, but it wasn't light. For the shot in the first photo—raising one leg while forming a hand seal with one hand and holding the sword in the other—we repeatedly adjusted my center of gravity to balance stability with graceful extension before nailing that perfect split second. Wide-sleeved garments tend to bunch up easily when posing, so I had to constantly monitor arm angles to ensure the fabric draped smoothly or billowed gracefully.
To complement the anime aesthetic, I paired the look with White stockings (over-the-knee socks with garter straps) and white high heels. The photographer set up high-key lighting; this bright, soft illumination not only rendered skin tones remarkably translucent, but also brought out the sheer lightness of the tulle and the fine texture of the stockings clearly. To keep the background immaculately clean, lighting angles and positions were refined repeatedly to prevent distracting cast shadows on the white cyclorama. Throughout the shoot, I paid special attention to eye expression. Given the cool overall color palette, a lack of firm resolve in the eyes could easily read as vacant or stiff. In many shots, I aimed for subtle upward glances or direct gazes into the lens to infuse the requisite character presence.
Qingxiao's temperament is tricky to balance—it demands a cool aloofness fused with a martial artist's crisp decisiveness. In choreographing my poses, I minimized excessive, messy movements, relying primarily on the prop sword and clean arm extensions to guide visual leading lines. The post-processing also preserved natural skin texture without heavy blurring, aiming to present a clean, fantasy-imbued visual story. Whenever cosplaying weapon-wielding characters, I love studying how to grip the sword and pivot naturally without stiffness. I hope this high-key lighting set brings everyone a fresh visual experience!
