Heading out for a late-night outdoor shoot with this voluminous skirt setup, from makeup and styling prep to stepping onto the location, there were plenty of details worth sharing.

The outfit features an overall Gothic black-and-white style, enriched with generous white lace, multi-layered ruffles, criss-cross chest straps, and delicate golden chain embellishments. The blue-green gradient wig extensions and the oversized white lace floral headpiece, accented with long teal-blue ribbons, make the whole styling intricate and dimensional. Slipping into black high heels and White stockings (over-the-knee socks), controlling my posture and balance felt quite different from usual.

The core challenge of this shoot was choosing a purely outdoor night setting. Ambient light was very dim, requiring external lighting equipment for almost everything. Huge thanks to photographer @ChengFeizhai, who crafted an intense cool-toned atmosphere in the frame—especially the teal-blue rim light on the headpiece edges and inside the skirt hem, giving the scene an ethereal glowing aura in the dark night. For post-processing, credit goes entirely to @LaoMoHuaBuDongLe for refining the details, addressing the noise and skin-tone color casts common in Night portrait photography, keeping the facial makeup naturally rosy and translucent even under direct flash.

Walking in this voluminous skirt was rather tricky, so I deliberately slowed down the pacing for many poses. During the skirt-lifting and finger-heart shots, I adjusted my hand placement repeatedly to maintain the correct fan of the skirt. The sparkler shots were a spontaneous addition; originally, we just wanted to see if we could create a visual interplay between warm and cool tones, but the warm glow of the sparklers on my face unexpectedly created a deeply serene ambiance.

This shoot happened right during the Firefly Con period, where foot traffic and noise were much higher than typical outdoor locations. In such a fast-paced environment filled with flashes and lenses, capturing shots with a quiet, standalone vibe requires great chemistry between the cosplayer and the photography team. As a cosplayer, I truly enjoy this process of gradually adjusting postures on set and exchanging ideas with the crew, rather than merely rushing for a quick shutter click.

Looking back at these Firefly Con post-event photos, I feel Cheshire's lazy, slightly mysterious, yet occasionally playful personality shines through in the skirt-lifting, heart gestures, and daydreaming with sparklers. Though it was late into the night, the light, shadow, and texture genuinely captured my most authentic and immersed state of character portrayal. Being able to reinterpret and present her this way made for a deeply satisfying shoot.
