The plucking of a string sends time flowing back to the past. This official cosplay photoshoot is the result of a non-commercial collaboration work between myself and photographer @魔法书📷. Although it was a casual scheduled shoot, we spent a massive amount of time on early planning, especially on the adaptation of costumes and props and the pairing of studio setups and lighting, striving to present that touch of serenity and transcendence of the character along her storyline in the final photos.

Let's first talk about the material and design of this outfit. The overall design combines Chinese style with xianxia elements, with a primary color palette of cyan-blue, white, and gold, embellished with gold-stamped and bright yellow rope knots and frog closures. The high-slit skirt hem and off-the-shoulder design actually test the costume's tailoring and fit, making it look elegant and elongating the body shape rather than appearing bulky. The material of the long gloves has a weak reflectivity, creating a wonderful layered contrast with the fabric texture. To maintain the character's visual accuracy, I paid special attention to the hair and makeup details: the black hair was highlighted with a cyan-green gradient, paired with gold hollowed-out hair accessories, allowing it to fit the character's temperament perfectly during the shoot.

In terms of prop utilization, this translucent, light-passing round fan is absolutely a magical tool for atmosphere. During the shoot, the photographer cast a rim light from the rear-side; as the light filtered through the fan surface, the pink plum blossom patterns on it leaped to life, creating a beautiful clash of warm and cool colors with the blue and white outfit worn. The blue-and-gold string instrument in Figure 2 beautifully extends the spatial sense of the frame, preventing the character's posture from looking flat. The text mentions 'strings plucked,' and this prop gave me a lot of inspiration for poses during the shoot—whether holding it closely or leaning against it, it makes the visuals more vivid and leaves the hands with a natural place to rest.

The studio set was also meticulously selected by us. The blue calligraphy scroll background and Chinese-style wooden window lattices not only provide depth, but that eerie blue light also directly echoes the overall artistic tone of the character. When shooting Figure 4, we used a set of props consisting of a birdcage and a white dove. The moment the white dove landed on top of the cage, paired with the blue-gray shadows, it created a contradictory yet beautiful aesthetic of life within a cool tone—as if time truly froze at the moment the strings were plucked, as mentioned in the text, bringing one back to a certain moment in the past.

Actually, before preparing for this cosplay photoshoot, I had been pondering how to combine the character's cool detachment and softness without forced imitation. Doing cosplay requires more than just costume accuracy; more importantly, it's about finding that unique sense of relaxation belonging to the character in front of the lens. These four photos actually capture my relatively relaxed moments—some leaning against the wooden railing, some sitting on the floor, and some interacting with the surrounding props. I am quite satisfied with the sitting pose in Figure 2; paired with the natural extension of the legs, plus the embellishment of the round fan and instrument, the combination of composition and light/shadow is extremely comfortable, yielding an overall sense of balance that suits both movement and stillness.

Lastly, I'd like to talk about this collaboration work with the photographer. This non-commercial cooperation gave us more room to experiment with different lighting and angles. The lighting concept was excellent: instead of using bright flat light, the ambient light was dimmed down, keeping only the main light source and rim light to give the frame a cool blue hue, which is what brought out the high quality of this cosplay photoshoot. Photography isn't just about pressing the shutter; it's about mastering the atmosphere, a feeling that ran exceptionally deep during this collaboration.

That's all for my insights from this shoot! I'm incredibly happy to recreate this story-rich character from Honkai: Star Rail in this manner. I also hope that sharing these details can provide a tiny bit of inspiration to fellow cosplayers who love this character or are preparing for a similar Chinese-style cosplay and studio shoot.
