For this Aglaea Cosplay, I intentionally didn't copy the original design completely, but instead added some of my own ideas to make subtle adjustments for a Custom design cosplay. First, for makeup, I kept the character's signature Blonde hair and green eyes with green contact lenses and a blonde wig, but adjusted the eyeshadow and lip color to more everyday rose-pink tones, highlighting her temperament without looking overly heavy. I styled the wig with fluffy curls, adding large waves to the ends on both sides. Paired with metallic branch hair accessories on top and small white flowers on the sides, the overall look achieved greater depth and layering. For the Cosplay outfit, I paired a khaki trench coat with a striped shirt and added a delicate pearl necklace, transforming the original fantasy style into a casual, modern urban aesthetic that preserves a touch of divinity while adding everyday warmth.
When shooting, I stood in front of the wardrobe at home; the white wall and door frame served as a very simple background, but lighting highlighted the skin tone and the texture of the hair strands exceptionally well. This was mainly a selfie shoot, where I experimented with high-angle and side-profile views to ensure my gaze engaged directly with the lens. The most fascinating part of doing Custom design cosplay is being able to interpret the character in your own way—it doesn't have to be 100% identical, as long as the core spirit is there to convey that distinct feeling. During the shoot, I also noticed that hair strands get messy easily and the placement of the bangs is very particular—shifting them just slightly changes the entire aura.
The pearl necklace and striped inner layer worn this time aren't in the official design from Honkai: Star Rail, but I feel this mix-and-match approach makes the character feel more approachable. The entire prep work—from selecting the wig and trimming the bangs to color coordination and assembling the Cosplay outfit—took quite a lot of thought and effort. Behind every cosplay work lies a renewed understanding of the character's personality and story. Aglaea has a rich backstory in Honkai: Star Rail, and her sense of calm and aloofness was precisely what I wanted to convey. Through this Custom design cosplay method, I hope people unfamiliar with the original work can still appreciate this aesthetic atmosphere while giving myself broader creative freedom. These photos weren't overly edited, mostly preserving the authentic texture of the raw shots, as I believe genuine documentation is an attitude in itself. I hope this attempt brings everyone a fresh visual experience.
