Today, I changed directly into this Arknights Thumpy cosplay costume at the convention site. Taking advantage of an empty spot in the backstage photography area, I quickly snapped this selfie. Since it's a single-image snapshot, I wanted all the costume details to shine through in the frame.
The short pink curly hair paired with those giant pink plush bunny ears on top creates an intensely strong visual presence. To secure these bunny ears firmly, plenty of invisible bobby pins were pinned to my head, and a white flower hairpiece on the left side was used to smooth out the bangs transition. The wig fiber is quite soft, maintaining its fluffy volume without requiring excessive styling. For the eye makeup, I used pinkish-purple contact lenses paired with pink-blended eyeshadow, hoping to echo the hair color. The base makeup is fair and clean, blush is dusted beneath the eyes, and the lipstick is a glossy strawberry tint, giving the overall vibe a cute and energetic touch.
The upper body features a white high-neck jacket layered over a tight pink top. A striking orange carrot and green four-leaf clover badge hang prominently on the chest, flanked by black bows on both sides. The jacket's zipper and silver metal buckles have a very crisp texture under the lights, while the black waist belt and metal disk decorations add an edge of toughness. My left hand wears orange fingerless gloves and a black wristband, and a red strap with lettering is sewn onto the white sleeve cover on my right hand.
Shooting in an environment like a convention makes lighting quite complex. The industrial overhead lighting in the venue is rather harsh, so I deliberately avoided direct top lighting, utilizing a nearby softbox to softly fill in light on my face. Taking a selfie with my own equipment requires controlling the composition to keep debris out of the edges while ensuring the subject is centered. Other photographers were also setting up lighting behind me, and steering clear of nearby light stands and crowds in the background while framing was no easy feat.
Cosplaying a character with so many accessories is always a test during dressing and wearing. Because the bunny ears are so massive, even a slight downward tilt makes them lean forward, requiring constant attention to neck angles to maintain proper posture. The white jacket material has a slight sheen and tends to overexpose under strong light, so I had to carefully adjust my face orientation when finding angles. Sorting out all these details before pressing the shutter is a basic requirement for a complete cosplay work. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the accuracy of this costume, and the color combinations rendered wonderfully in the camera. Although things were rushed on-site, gathering all these elements and successfully capturing this photo was a pleasant surprise bonus of the convention trip.
The color scheme of this set is exceptionally bright, making it highly recognizable among the convention crowds. After finishing this photo, fellow fans even came over to ask if they could take a few Convention photos, leading to a brief chat about styling and accessory coordination. Whenever I cosplay such vibrantly colored characters, I always prepare all components in advance—from hair ornaments to brooches and glove color shades—matching the source design as closely as possible. Meeting friends who love the same character at the convention and exchanging thoughts is a genuine joy. Cosplaying at conventions has this unique charm: though dressing up is cumbersome, sharing a passion for the work with everyone creates a truly rare atmosphere. Regarding lighting arrangements, I experimented with different angles before finally selecting this selfie with relatively soft illumination. Pink and white account for a large proportion of the frame, with the background metallic truss acting as a dark contrast, naturally concentrating the visual focus onto the character. While taking the photo, I also adjusted the bend of my arm to let the strap on the sleeve drape naturally, adding depth to the composition. A lot of effort went into the overall hair, makeup, and costume matching, and the final result made it all completely worthwhile. Though changing clothes and fixing the wig on-site was tedious, the moment I saw the photo, all the fatigue melted away. That wraps up this single-image snapshot for now, and I look forward to trying out more diverse things in future Convention photos.
