As for this Watatsumi Island-themed shoot, the coordination between the scene and the styling/makeup was key. To recreate the character's unique temperament, we chose a large amount of cool-toned elements for the set, such as those semi-transparent large blue flowers in Photo 2 and Photo 3, the reflective floor with water ripple textures, and the diamond-shaped glowing crystals appearing in Photo 3. These details align perfectly with the character's own imagery of the ocean and pearls. My first reaction upon receiving this set of client photos was that the tone and atmosphere were managed very comfortably. With the cool-toned light and shadow casting onto the outfit, the texture of the costume fabric was brought out vividly.

Regarding the makeup and styling, the wig this time featured a pink hair design with a blue gradient at the ends, and the bun on top of the head was intentionally styled a bit higher, paired with wave-shaped hair ornaments to leave a nice proportion when wearing the choker. That thick black choker around the neck, inlaid with a blue gemstone pendant, combined with the white gloves, added a touch of dark contrast to the blue-and-white costume base. Overall, it looks both youthful and agile, while carrying a bit of the character's inherent composed aura. The clothing tailoring features an asymmetric off-the-shoulder design, which actually demands a high standard for upper-body posture, requiring me to constantly mind the extension of my shoulders and neck during the shoot. The dark blue coat is printed with white ocean waves and water ripple totems; the patchwork of the sleeves and the semi-transparent sheer edges add a hint of lightness to the originally heavy color palette. For the lower body, I wore white stockings, paired with platform shoes adorned with blue bows, which visually makes the leg lines look much longer.

During the shooting process, I tried out several actions. The kneeling and glancing-back posture in Photo 2 heavily tests center-of-gravity control and expression management, requiring me to maintain the drape of the skirt hem while displaying the character's calm elegance. Sitting upright and raising a cup in Photo 1, paired with the light spots refracted by the crystals behind, constructed an atmosphere of sipping tea and quietly meditating in the Sangonomiya Shrine. The final composition of looking up and reaching out was meant to capture a sense of extension longing for the sea surface and the sky. To recreate Sangonomiya Kokomi's unique posture—strategizing yet gentle—the hand gestures were also kept as natural and relaxed as possible to avoid an overly staged feel.

Just as the scenes in Photo 1 and Photo 3 present, if you want to shoot this type of scene beautifully, besides the lighting needing to perfectly grasp the transition between cool colors and purple, choosing a soft-textured white carpet and matte-textured decorative flowers can also make the frame even more dreamlike. Light and shadow speak a highly emotional language. That large diamond-shaped glowing body in the background happens to provide a visual focus for the frame, giving the overall space a greater sense of depth. In the final photos this time, I quite like the feeling of having the coat half-draped, slightly revealing a bit of the shoulders and collarbones, which, in coordination with the white gloves, nicely balances dignity with a gentle temperament. During post-processing editing, we also focused heavily on retaining the skin texture while enhancing the depth of field a bit, giving the background flowers and glowing body a blended feeling of reality and illusion.

This blue sea of flowers feels just like the light and shadow refracted from the deep sea. In such a surrealist blue space, portraying a wise leader of Watatsumi Island was a highly challenging yet rewarding shooting experience. When selecting photos, I intentionally picked out these few frames with a relatively unified atmosphere that display different body languages, attempting to make the entire set of client photos look more coherent. Being able to participate in the shoot of this costume and record such a philosophical and story-rich side of the character gives me a great sense of accomplishment. I hope to try more creations of similar styles in the future to master a better way of combining a complex dreamy backdrop with the character's unique charm.
