[Marisa Kirisame cosplay] Touhou Project: Vintage portrait of the Black and White Magician in a Rustic Wooden House

This Touhou Project Marisa Kirisame cosplay photoshoot featuring a fanon costume was shot in an aged, historic wooden house. The initial decision to choose this styling came from how well this black-and-white Lolita dress fits Marisa Kirisame's classic 'Black and White Magician' identity, while infusing many delicate and soft elements. The costume is rich in detail, with cascading layers of lace, a black choker at the collar, and a purplish-red ribbon that serves as a beautiful accent. The wide brim of the hat with its scalloped lace edges also enhances the dimensional silhouette. The broom is a vital prop in this shoot, with the texture of the bristles and the weathered wooden handle conveying a distinct sense of storytelling.

A lot of care went into the hair and makeup as well. Light blonde hair was braided into plaits and paired with voluminous bangs and soft pink contact lenses to create a dreamy, doll-like vibe. The makeup focused on defining the eye contours to make the eyes look larger and more expressive, while the pink blush and lipstick coordinated with the purple ribbon to soften the overall aesthetic.

The priority during shooting was finding body language that harmonized with the spatial environment. To best showcase the White stockings with lace trim and the leg lines of the outfit, the photographer and I decided on a seated pose on the wooden steps. Shooting from a low angle while tilting the body slightly allowed a shallow depth of field to keep the focus sharply on the subject. In particular, the chin-resting pose in the third photo is simple yet relaxed; paired with a slightly languid and melancholic gaze, it endowed the lively character with an unusual sense of tranquility. The addition of hydrangeas—especially those few blue-purple clusters—broke up the expansive warm tones and monochrome palette, giving the viewer's eyes a focal resting point and creating great color harmony.

Post-processing mainly unified the color palette into a warm Vintage portrait style, lowering harsh highlights and increasing shadow clarity to impart a vintage film feel. While avoiding drastic changes to the original image structure, emphasis was placed on preserving the crisp texture of the dress lace and the smooth sheen of the White stockings. As a Touhou Project fan creation, I hoped to use visual storytelling to express another facet of this character beyond her usual battle-ready persona. Although the shooting environment was somewhat aged, the angle of the natural light streaming through the windows was exceptionally pleasing. Looking back at the entire shoot, from costume fitting to the finished photos, every step was dedicated to bringing this vintage theme to life.
