This was my first attempt at blending Kochiya Sanae into a casual, everyday JK uniform photoshoot, mainly aiming to express her daily life as a living goddess in the modern world. In preparing for this shoot, I chose a standard short-sleeved white Sailor suit with a navy sailor collar and a red bow tie, paired with a dark pleated mini skirt, White stockings, and brown uniform loafers. This combination harmonizes wonderfully with the character's original aesthetic—especially the long green hair paired with this uniform, which looked remarkably fresh and clear by the seaside in the modern world. To enhance the atmosphere, I deliberately added red and green hair accessories, hung a small white plush toy around my neck, and carried a black canvas tote adorned with a blue-and-white tassel charm. These prop choices made the entire look much more vivid.

The shooting location was next to a seaside bridge, where the white railings contrasted against the gray concrete, and the sea-crossing bridge and distant ships in the background formed a rich cityscape. The photographer used a large-aperture lens to softly blur the background, focusing visual attention squarely on the subject. The biggest challenge during shooting was managing standing and seated poses. For instance, leaning against the railing on one leg required maintaining core balance while watching leg lines, using the White stockings to flatter the leg shape. A similar approach was used for the shot sitting on a stone block—crossing the legs at the right angle made them look elongated. When shooting close-ups, holding a book as a prop provided a natural focal point for the eyes while the photographer guided the mood. Looking back over my shoulder while walking along the bridge, with the wind catching my hair, captured a moment filled with storytelling.

I did plenty of preparation beforehand on how to reflect character traits through props and garment details, allowing 3D everyday wear to evoke a 2D aesthetic. Beyond frontal angles, we also tried profile shots—such as standing on seaside rocks with the body slightly turned, glancing back at the camera to showcase the silhouette of the skirt and legs. As a character from the Touhou Project, her lore embodies a union of divinity and humanity; seeing her walk through real-world streets in a regular JK uniform creates a truly engaging contrast. During shooting, I focused on fine details, such as smoothing out the Sailor suit creases and finding the ideal angle for the skirt to catch the sea breeze. The White stockings were another styling highlight, showing rich texture under natural light. The shoot lasted an entire afternoon, and experimenting with various compositions gave me new insights into portraying the character across different environments. Although it was casual street photography, pairing the distinct hair color with deliberate eye contact kept the frames engaging. Bringing a fictional character into real-world settings is more challenging than studio shoots due to shifting natural light, passerby gazes, and weather, yet it imbues the photos with vitality, creating the illusion of a character stepping off the screen for a stroll. These photos capture not merely physical resemblance, but an immersive ambiance and presence rooted in reality.
