For this shoot, we chose a seamless paper pure white studio background, mainly to highlight the blue-and-white palette of the sports uniform alongside the character's vibrant colors. Preparing for this Shimoe Koharu gymnastics uniform cosplay took plenty of work on the wig: the pink twin tails required repeated trimming and styling to ensure rich layers and fluffiness on camera without looking stiff under bright lights. The halo overhead and the little black wings on my back were reinforced as well. Combined with the black beret, the color contrast was remarkably sharp inside the white studio, capturing a clean, crystal-clear frame without needing complex set dressing.
Regarding the outfit, the jacket is made of structured athletic fabric; keeping the zipper half-open revealed the white inner top, creating natural visual breathing room. The tailored gym shorts paired with high-top black-and-white canvas sneakers and white crew socks naturally accentuated the leg lines. White studio photography actually tests a model's expressiveness heavily: because the background reflectivity is high and the light diffuses evenly, flat expressions can easily make someone look washed out. Throughout the shoot, I continuously communicated light angles with my photographer, @Qiye, introducing subtle rim lighting to define silhouettes and enhance facial contours. This prevented me from blending into the pure white backdrop while keeping every detail crisp.
As for props, the prohibition sign with the red diagonal slash served as a delightfully fun interactive element. Posing with it brought spontaneous energy to each movement—such as standing on one leg with a knee slightly raised, or gripping the short handle across my chest, breaking the monotony of simple standing poses with pleasing geometric lines. I also explored various postures including cross-legged sitting, reclining with legs stretched sideways, and half-crouching. While sitting sideways, I extended my leg lines toward the corner of the frame while the photographer lowered the camera angle, visually elongating the legs. Given the shorts, sitting postures required mindful control to remain fluid without awkward angles, demanding solid core strength to keep my torso gracefully upright.
The greatest perk of white studio photography is that almost no cutouts are needed in post-processing; simply balancing contrast and skin tones on raw files produces ready-to-share results. With an entirely white background, centered compositions proved the most dependable choice to prevent visual imbalance. Most poses in this session focused on athletic vigor and playfulness, blending jumps and leg-raises with props to evoke campus energy fused with anime charm. Although finding the perfect angles called for constant repositioning and lighting tweaks, seeing the crisp light and lively previews made all the prep work worthwhile. I look forward to experimenting with more props and scenes next time to keep showcasing the character's expressive dynamism.
