[Ushio Kofune cosplay & Mio Kofune cosplay] Pressing Play on Nostalgia in Tomogashima from Summer Time Rendering

Standing on the soil of Tomogashima in these uniforms felt like pressing play, instantly returning us to that parallel world filled with summer cicada chirps and intertwined time-space.

This time, my partner and I completed a duo pairing of Ushio Kofune cosplay and Mio Kofune cosplay. We chose a real-location shoot on Tomogashima rather than a studio shoot, because every plant, tree, street, and sea breeze here carries an authentic Japanese small-town vibe. Sunlight was intense with high UV rays on shooting day. When posing together before the red vending machine near the harbor, light and shadows hit the white sailor suits, outlining sharp silhouettes. Though we were scorched by the sun, the translucent clarity brought by this authentic lighting is unmatched by studio shoots.

The JK uniform is a classic white top paired with a dark blue pleated skirt. Featuring a dark sailor collar adorned with a matching necktie, the skirt hem fell right above the knees. To fit character lore, we each wore JK white stockings (over-the-knee socks), paired respectively with sneakers and leather uniform shoes—a contrast in footwear that added depth to our duo photos. Another perk of real-scene shooting is that the wind flutters skirt hems and hair strands; candid captures feel far more vital than studio shots, and the skirt fluttering in the breeze embodies the authenticity we pursued.

On shooting day, we covered almost all signature landmarks on the island. Old houses wrapped in rusted tin sheets created a nostalgic ambiance; a brick tunnel sealed with a rusty iron door provided a stunning arched framing composition; pine forests swept by sea breezes and stone breakwaters instantly relaxed us. We left our footprints before corner old houses, along sloped paths brimming with greenery, and beneath prominent red torii gates in the background. Though walking mountain trails in uniforms and leather shoes was tiring given the undulating terrain, stepping onto each spot delivered an intense Anime pilgrimage photography sense of immersion that washed away all exhaustion.

For hair and makeup, being a duo required consistent skin tone bases while differentiating eye makeup details and hair colors to highlight individual character settings. Black hair looked crisp and sharp while blonde hair was long and straight; their color contrast in sunlight when sharing the frame was visually captivating. To match the original work's aura, we both wore blue contact lenses to make our gaze appear clearer and more vivid.

In this shoot, I wanted to emphasize costume detail fidelity. The sailor suits were custom-made to fit 2D design cuts as closely as possible, crafted from breathable fabrics to withstand the blistering sun. White stocking length was also key—wrapping perfectly around the calves to visually extend leg lines while delivering vibrant youthful energy.

Mutual synergy during shooting was essential. Duo photography is far more challenging than solo shoots, requiring mutual awareness of positioning, fill lighting, and expression adjustments. Sometimes for a single perspective trick pose, the two of us had to run back and forth repeatedly. Yet the final results turned out amazing—harbor boats, distant seaside mountains, and the serene quiet of old streets created a magical chemical reaction with our attire.

Though half a day of outdoor shooting left us utterly exhausted, seeing the results in camera made everything feel completely worthwhile. This isn't merely sharing a set of photos, but a payback to our own passion. I hope the texture, lighting, and ambiance of these images convey feelings of resolve and youthfulness, letting everyone experience the tranquility and beauty of Tomogashima.
