[Lily Yan Cosplay] Balala the Fairies Dark Fairy Night Photoshoot

I planned and shot a cosplay piece for Lily Yan this time, focusing on the Dark Fairy look from Balala the Fairies. To fit the mystery and dark magic aura of the character's original setting, I specifically selected an outdoor night location with classical stone pillar structures. For lighting, instead of standard warm light sources, we used high-powered cyan and blue fill lights combined with the natural night sky to create a strong cool-toned atmosphere. This blue-purple lighting environment not only fits the Dark Fairy transformation effect in the show, but also gives the photos a stronger visual impact and cinematic feel.

Let's talk about the costume details first. The outfit uses purple as the main tone. The upper body features a stand-up collar with a choker design, and stiff shoulder pads that make the posture very upright. The fabric has a pearlescent purple texture with silver water-ripple lines and geometric embroidery accents. The open cuffs reveal black fingerless gloves, convenient for handling props while adding a battle-ready feel. The dark butterfly-shaped prop in my hand is a favorite accessory; its cyan and blue details glow faintly under the night fill lights, echoing the cool tones of the frame.

For hair and makeup, to recreate the Dark Fairy image, I tried a light purple wig with straight bangs for this Purple hair cosplay. Light purple can look frizzy under lights, so I spent a lot of time smoothing it before shooting to ensure drape and shine. The animal-ear headband is a finishing touch; the purple base with silver outlines instantly maximizes visual recognition. I chose clean and translucent base makeup paired with a soft matte lip color, ensuring it wouldn't steal focus from the costume colors. Since facial expressions convey different states, I intentionally presented two distinct styles in the final shots.

The lower body styling is also worth noting. The skirt adopts a multi-layered design: an outer purple miniskirt decorated with small cyan-blue ribbons along the edge, and an inner black skirt hem creating a gradient depth. To accentuate leg lines and add the unique aura of a magical girl, I wore black fishnet stockings as part of a Fishnet stockings cosplay look. Fishnet stockings require careful handling in shooting and post-production, as wrong lighting can easily cause awkward reflections or uneven patterns; fortunately, the cyan-blue base light fell on the netting with a delicate texture. Purple platform high-heeled boots elongated the lower body proportions while reinforcing her cool, sharp attitude.

During the shoot, I tried using body language to echo the character's personality. For the full-body shot, I stood between two stone pillars, raising one hand high while holding a mask prop with the other, gazing directly into the camera. This pose tests shoulder and neck extension as well as core strength, ensuring smooth lines in the raised arm without stiffness on the other side. Under the lighting, this pose released the Dark Fairy's bold, confident, and mysterious vibe. For the half-body close-up, I chose a gentle posture with eyes closed and head down, holding the mask with both hands, breaking the character's purely cold side to capture a quiet, peaceful moment.

Overall, shooting Lily Yan cosplay with this Dark Fairy style was a challenging and fun experience. From wig texture to anti-slip concerns on stone paths in heels, to using cool lighting with fishnet stockings to capture elegant leg textures, every detail needed tuning. This purple outfit looks great at night, but requires precise lighting control. Thanks to the photographer's skillful control, the final result achieved the desired cosplay sharing effect.
