[Yao Guang cosplay] Peacock Feather in Honkai: Star Rail: The Outfit Details Are Truly Next Level

Collaborating with photographer @Octavian📷, we captured this photoshoot for Yao Guang from Honkai: Star Rail. The location was set at Planarcadia, offering an exquisite ambiance where classical Chinese aesthetics interweave with high fantasy.

First, regarding the costume's details—I was genuinely stunned upon seeing the physical pieces. The primary palette revolves around pure white and vivid bright blue. The peacock feather structure around the waist and abdomen serves as the visual centerpiece: the blue-and-black feathered wings are edged with silver metallic hardware, while the trailing train beneath is emblazoned with massive feather and eye-spot patterns, draping naturally in motion to form dramatic layers. To enhance three-dimensional depth, the chest is adorned with intricate silver chains and crystalline pendants, punctuated by crimson tassels as contrasting accents, and complemented by a deep blue plush stole draped over the shoulders that adds substantial visual richness.

For hair and makeup, the wig featured sleek light-blue twintails with exceptional smoothness, accented on the left side by a dimensional butterfly ornament in black, blue, and pink. To match the character's presence, I wore bright blue contact lenses, with eye makeup softly blended across a wide pink wash, paired with pronounced blush and glossy cherry-red lips to achieve that delicate yet lively porcelain-doll aesthetic. For props, I prepared a folding fan with blue floral motifs on a white base, which enriched the compositions with versatile posing choreography during the shoot.

The shooting process proved quite demanding on stamina. In the first shot, seated on a wooden chair with legs crossed, I had to press my center of gravity against the backrest to keep my torso upright and poised. In the second, standing while brandishing the folding fan, I aimed to convey a dynamic spellcasting motion, raising my arm while carefully managing the angles of the white glove and silver bicep cuff. The third shot featured dramatic lighting that brought out the metallic textures on the chest. In the fourth, sitting sideways on a long table draped in a white fur blanket to showcase the trailing hemline and leg contours, I staggered my legs naturally, revealing the metallic chains on the high heels and ankle details to the lens.

This shoot placed high demands on posture: because the skirt is high-low—cut short in front with a long train behind—and paired with glossy silver stiletto heels, balance was tricky to maintain, frequently requiring core and back strength to hold poses. The dark carved wooden screens, red plum blossom branches, and porcelain ware in the scene provided beautiful color balance for the saturated costume. The interplay between the folding fan and plush stole lent quiet tension to even the static poses.

The final results fully met expectations. The fabric textures and makeup colors held up impeccably under high-definition lenses, and the diverse angles effectively captured the tailoring nuances and accessory details. It was a thoroughly gratifying and exhilarating shooting experience.
