[Astra Yao cosplay] Elegant musical notes in Zenless Zone Zero, a black-and-white Gothic Studio shoot

While shooting this set of Zenless Zone Zero Astra Yao cosplay official photos, that quote kept echoing in my heart: "Every era must always have a diva belonging to its time. I hope my singing will be the musical staff that weaves this era together, so that hearts will no longer be separated." To get close to the character's elegant yet artistic setting, we put a lot of thought into the coordination of costumes and props for this Studio shoot.

Let's talk about the costume first. This black-and-white color-blocked styling is an iconic design for Astra Yao. The upper body is a pure white off-shoulder lantern-sleeve top, with delicate dusty-pink bow ribbons at the cuffs, which softens the crispness of black and white while adding youthful playfulness. The black bowtie and pearl embellishments at the neckline are cleverly coordinated, while the corset below is crafted from glossy black leather, which, combined with metal rings and embedded pearl details, presents a high-end luster under the flash. The black ruffled miniskirt on the lower body forms a striking visual contrast with the extensive White tights cosplay, and the specially paired pearl thigh garter on the thigh, along with those glossy black platform Mary Jane shoes and pearl ankle straps, maintains seamless consistency in details. Standing before the camera in this outfit, one can truly experience the character's unique composure.

Another highlight of this photo set lies in the rich prop elements. That massive wooden staff was genuinely heavy, designed with a compass- or sundial-like disc structure at the top paired with concentric rings, bestowing it with strong magical fantasy vibes. During the shoot, we also utilized star wands, a color palette, and sheet music. In particular, cradling that bouquet of white lilies with scattered daisies made me feel like an artist creating in an atelier, or a performer who had just wrapped up a musical recital. Combined with the skull prop resting quietly beside me, it lent a touch of profound Gothic ambiance to the entire frame.

The set construction for this Studio shoot was also exceptionally photogenic. Photographer Bai Kai prepared many atmospheric retro props: white silk and dark red velvet drapery cascaded down one side, while petals and candles were scattered across an intricately patterned red-and-black carpet, bordered by stacked classical books, white Roman pillars, blooming roses, a vintage rotary phone, framed butterfly specimens, and a phonograph. Being immersed in such a story-rich environment naturally elevated my emotions.

Because the costume materials featured high-sheen glossy leather and pearls, the demands on on-site lighting were exceptionally strict. Bai Kai used spot lighting to accentuate the material contrast between the White tights cosplay, black skirt hem, and high heels, while utilizing soft lighting for background shadows, giving the overall image both a vintage oil painting aesthetic and magical dimensional layering in Anime-style photography. In shots holding the staff and palette, the metallic and wooden textures of the props were rendered with pristine clarity.

This is probably why I personally adore Studio shoots: they transform a 2D look into a multi-dimensional narrative. Through the lens of Anime-style photography, we explored the character's multiple identities—both as a diva at center stage and as a creator conversing with art. Without relying on complex special effects, relying purely on on-site lighting, props, and expressions, we brought the character's aura to life. I hope this photo set conveys the unique aesthetic ambiance of the Zenless Zone Zero universe, allowing everyone to feel my dedicated understanding and interpretation of Astra Yao cosplay.
