[Azur Lane New Jersey Cosplay] Chinese-Style Qipao Outfit Moments at a Night Convention

It's been a few days since these Qipao shoot photos of Azur Lane New Jersey were taken, and today I finally organized these convention photos. To be honest, the blue hair styling was the part I was most worried about during preparation. Supporting the ahoge required adjusting angles, and the weight of the hair ornaments made me fear it might shift while walking around the convention hall. Luckily, I found a wig stylist on-site to make quick adjustments, and it stayed securely in place.

This venue shoot was completed inside a large exhibition hall. The lighting environment at night wasn't ideal for photography, as noise under high ISO settings can be noticeable. However, the rows of spotlights at the top of the hall turned out to be great point light sources, giving the images a cool, sharp texture that created a striking contrast with the lavish embroidery on the Qipao outfit itself.

The costume details are very refined. The black lace trim at the collar paired with royal blue satin fabric and gold embroidered patterns creates an East-meets-West fusion design that looks rich in texture in person. I paired the shimmering black stockings with black platform heels myself; since the character's original leg lines are emphasized in many fan works, I intentionally picked stockings with a subtle shimmer. Combined with the reflective floor, it nicely extended the contours of my legs on camera while giving off a softer texture.

The round fan prop was crafted delicately, with its intricate floral and bird art clearly visible under the spotlights. We re-shot the first seated photo several times because the position of the high stool and the forward angle of my body affected the tension of the Qipao silhouette. In the end, following the photographer's suggestion, I lifted the hem slightly to reveal the complete embroidery edge on one side while crossing one leg over the other. This not only highlighted costume details, but also made the sitting pose look effortlessly composed rather than stiff.

The pose standing on one leg in the second photo really tested my balance. The heavy shoes combined with long black gloves made large movements uncomfortable, but I loved the sense of perspective in this composition. The lights down the long corridor behind drew out spatial depth, making it look as though I were standing on an infinitely extending stage. The angle of holding the fan was also deliberate; resting it gently against the chest or near the collar naturally drew visual focus toward the face. Paired with the highlighted blue hair, it maintained smooth, even lighting across the face under top light.

As for makeup, I kept the eye makeup relatively light to emphasize the color layering between the blue hair and pearl hair accessories. I chose a darker rose-brown lipstick to prevent clashing with the high saturation of the outfit.

Although people were constantly coming and going at the convention, finding such a quiet corner to take photos with a clean background wasn't easy. Compared to the crowded main stage, I actually prefer capturing a serene atmosphere in structured spaces. The final tone of the photos was adjusted to cool colors while preserving the ground reflections, aiming to reproduce the outfit's fabric texture and Qipao styling details as accurately as possible.

As I organized these convention photos, I suddenly felt that doing anime cosplay is not just about recreating a character, but also about conveying a sense of off-stage authenticity. Immersing oneself in a character's style within an unfamiliar venue feels incredibly relaxing.
