[Yuzuriha Inori Cosplay] Guilty Crown's Red Goldfish Dress and Firm Eyes

Having just finished sorting through these photos of Inori's goldfish dress, the overall outcome aligns very well with my original concept before the shoot. In the character's original design, the contrasting red and black glossy material carries strong visual impact, which, along with the large semi-transparent orange tulle streamers, eats up light and shadow against a pure white backdrop. This posed a real test for both the model and photographer in controlling highlight contrasts.

The tailoring of the glossy red leather upper section fits extremely close, especially around the large cutouts at the waist and abdomen, where the edges needed to align smoothly with my body contours during poses to display a natural, seamless curve. The pair of independent long sleeves on the arms had a stiffer texture, yet they held their shape remarkably well. The black and yellow waist accessory paired with the crisscross red-and-black hollow leg straps effectively broke up the monotony of pure red, adding rich visual layering to the lower body. The pink hair cosplay wig underwent multiple sample tweaks before settling on this cool-toned pale pink; the layers were cut quite finely so that it could appear light and airy on camera while relying on styling products to maintain shape.

During this session, the biggest challenge was capturing the dynamic movement of the tulle. The photographer used high-speed continuous shooting to catch the moments when the reddish-orange tulle was flipped into the air. The sweeping arcs formed mid-air by these semi-transparent fabrics beautifully mimicked the nimble grace of a goldfish swimming. While shooting, I had to generate force from my arms and shoulders to swing the tulle; too much force made it messy, while too little lacked tension. Because glossy red leather easily creates chaotic glare under studio portrait strobes, a great deal of effort went into adjusting the lighting. We used multiple softboxes and reflectors to soften highlights while retaining the lacquer sheen of the material itself. This ensured the outfit didn't turn into a flat, dead black, but instead reflected ambient light with a rich red glow.

For footwear, I chose red-and-black thick-soled high heels. Although these shoes had some weight, they provided a stable center of gravity, allowing physical exertion points to transfer to the ground better during various standing and dynamic poses. The posture I selected—with one hand raised high and the other hanging down—was finalized after many trials; this angle effectively stretched the upper body lines while allowing the ribbons beside both arms to unfold naturally into an encircling frame. For facial expressions, rather than an exaggerated smile, I maintained a serene yet firm look to match the character's aloof yet gentle personality. To faithfully replicate this ambience during the studio portrait session, I repeatedly adjusted my body orientation and gaze focus to achieve optimal composition balance.

Moving around, jumping, and swinging tulle continuously inside the studio was definitely a physical workout, but it was precisely this intense dedication that allowed us to capture those natural, tension-filled action moments. From initial fitting to final makeup, actual studio portrait shooting, and post-processing adjustments, every single step underwent multiple revisions. The texture of the glossy red material under different light sources, the light transmission of the semi-transparent tulle, and the delicate layers of the pink hair cosplay wig—all these details came together to create the final result of cool elegance and lively grace. This fusion of material and light provided me with new insights into my own body control and movement expressiveness throughout portraying this character. I hope this work conveys the unique charm and conviction of Yuzuriha Inori from Guilty Crown.
