This time, what was shot is Yidhari from Zenless Zone Zero, with the overall style leaning towards a combination of deep-sea and dark elements. Because the character's visual features are quite distinct, a lot of time was spent polishing the details of the costume and props during the preparation stage.
In terms of clothing, the top is a white midriff-baring design, featuring cutouts and small black-and-gold alternate decorations on the chest, wearing a purple choker at the neckline, and the middle golden circular decoration and pendant were custom-made specifically for this set of photos. The lower body is paired with black high-waisted glossy leather short pants, with a silver metal chain hanging around the waist as an accent. The arm sleeves are independent of the top, with black gloves plus straps featuring diamond-shaped patterns; these details were confirmed many times before the shoot. Black stockings, garter belts, and platform high heels are one of the key focuses of this styling; wearing them not only stretches the overall visual proportions, but also gives the character a somewhat sexy yet cold and stern aura.
The prop part was prepared with heavy-weight items. The most eye-catching are the purple octopus tentacles; these tentacles are relatively soft in material but huge in volume, and during the shoot, some were fixed on the background frame, while others required staff assistance to wrap around the legs or hover mid-air. To make the luster and texture of the tentacle surface more three-dimensional under the studio lighting, we adjusted the lighting angles back and forth several times. Another core prop is the long-handled mechanical hammer, which has purple circular structures on the black hammerhead, letter decals on the side, and chains and pendants hanging at the top of the long pole. This hammer is extremely heavy; holding it with one hand to pose not only tests arm strength, but also requires maintaining a relaxed facial expression. To find a good center of gravity, I tried different angles such as kneeling, standing, and sitting postures.
On makeup and hair, light short hair plus dark highlights; to match the deep-sea setting, purple colored contacts were worn, and the eye makeup also adopted red-purple gradient blending, making the gaze better fit the character's temperament.
During the shooting process, there were postures like sitting on a high stool with one leg raised to showcase the legs, as well as actions of kneeling in the middle of the tentacles and being entangled by them. Although the visual effect of the tentacles wrapping around the legs is magical, in reality, the leg muscles needed to exert force constantly to stay tense in order to stabilize the body without shaking, resulting in huge physical exertion after a session. Because the props are heavy and the costume is quite cumbersome, clothes and wigs needed to be constantly rearranged and adjusted during shooting breaks.
As a coser, in fact, every process of turning a 2D character into a 3D reality bit by bit is full of challenges. From the sewing of clothes and polishing of props, to the trimming of the wig and matching of makeup, to the final image presented in front of the lens, every link requires a lot of energy.
