The D3 session at Pazhou CICF is definitely the most unforgettable shooting experience of recent times. This time, Wakaba Mutsumi's cosplay photo set was finally arranged, and I was very lucky to catch the best lighting before the rainy day, maximizing the photo yield rate instantly. The styling design related to the Ave Mujica project itself possesses a strong dark gothic color scheme. To perfectly restore the character's essence, a lot of effort went into the makeup, styling, and details. The light ice-blue wig casts a cool tone under natural light, and the blunt bangs plus the cross hair clip are iconic elements. For the eye makeup, golden yellow contact lenses were deliberately worn, with deepened blending at the outer corners of the eyes, matched with a light-colored lip gloss, attempting to present that exquisite yet slightly detached doll-like temperament.
In terms of clothing, this gothic Lolita-style black dress has an exceptionally rich sense of layering. The off-the-shoulder design combined with the blue ribbon bow on the chest breaks the monotony of the all-black look. The exaggerated black lace nun's veil paired with golden moon decorations serves as the visual center of gravity for the entire styling, and also nicely flatters the head-to-body ratio. To fit the style, translucent lace gloves and white ruffled sleeve covers were prepared for the arms, while the legs feature black stockings with polka dots paired with black leg rings featuring golden patterns, stepping into a pair of chunky platform Mary Jane shoes, which fully brings up the overall aura. Of course, the gray-white plush scarf prop also added a sense of atmosphere in some shots, making the frame elements fuller.
This collaboration with photographer NightDiva went extremely smoothly. Because the convention site had messy lighting and many passersby in the background, we deliberately waited for the sky to darken, using LED constant lights for hard fill-lighting in a place with slightly less crowd traffic. This lighting method can effectively darken the background, hide distant pedestrians and clutter, making the character subject more prominent in the dark-toned environment—especially the dark-patterned lace on the black dress, the texture of the polka-dot stockings, and the golden yellow contact lenses were all captured wonderfully. In terms of action expression, I tried to maintain a static, slightly cold state to fit the character's traits. Besides the regular standing pose to display full-body proportions, some poses were also designed such as sitting gracefully, gently caressing the cheek, or interacting with a lipstick. The sitting posture not only allows the dark train of the skirt and the peacock-blue inner lining to be naturally displayed, but also better showcases leg lines and stocking details through limb overlapping. Standing up and slightly lifting the skirt hem or resting a hand on the edge of the headpiece can increase the layering of the frame. Even though the convention site is bustling and the environment complex, as long as lighting and composition are planned in advance and the dark gothic style you want to present is clearly defined, high-quality cosplay photo reports can be produced in a short time.
