Summer is all about playing in the water, and this long-planned Pool photoshoot finally came together. In reality, shooting outdoor swimwear—especially fully submerged in water—requires far more intricate preparation than one might expect. First was the wardrobe: a bikini paired with a white ruffled miniskirt that absorbed water upon entering the pool, becoming significantly heavier than usual. Managing the wig was another major challenge; the long Blue hair twin tails look wonderfully airy and fluttery on dry land, but once soaked, the wet strands clung tightly to the body and created noticeable pulling weight against the scalp. To maintain safety and comfort, we kept each immersion interval brief, taking intermittent breaks on the pool deck.
We brought along a Fujifilm camera, shooting at a 23mm focal length with a wide f/1.4 aperture at a fast 1/1000s shutter speed. This optical setup offered tremendous advantages under bright outdoor lighting for capturing dynamic water splashes—yielding creamy, soft background bokeh across tropical foliage and shimmering surface ripples while freezing split-second action. As for selecting the cover photo, the second frame without watermarks or embedded exposure parameters worked best. Compared to the first version, the framing was completely unobstructed, capturing a natural in-water pose where leg lines looked elongated through water refraction; leaning back slightly balanced authentic allure with the character's signature bubbly charm, centered cleanly in the frame.
There was also a third set shot along the sandy beach, where walking barefoot on the sand required extreme care against burning heat while balancing casually without slipping. While the overall shoot was physically exhausting—soaking in chilly water, holding breath, and holding poses—seeing the finished frames made every hardship worthwhile. The biggest takeaway from this session is that while the images look breezy and effortless, soaked hair is actually heavy and cold, and the photographer was drenched in the pool the entire time hunting for the perfect angles. The resulting chiaroscuro and color harmony were deeply satisfying, especially the contrast between the turquoise water and the blue-and-white outfit. Repeated takes were necessary to freeze the perfect water splash and natural expressions, but creating memorable summer photos in this Goddess of Victory: Nikke inspired cosplay was an absolute joy.
