Putting on the Tokiwadai Middle School uniform and tidying up the black hairpin, this set of photos aims to capture a sense of realism in school life. Before shooting, I carefully confirmed the position of the emblem, the striped details of the V-neck vest, and the collar of the white shirt—these iconic outfit elements are the foundation of restoring the character. In the close-up scene operating the mechanical claw machine, that focused gaze was preserved. Because the character setting includes traits like playing with gashapon and liking electronic products, this area with a transparent outer shell and a mechanical arm device was specially chosen, simulating a state of researching or operating the machine through poses. The forward-leaning posture of the hands and body also referenced the character's usual relaxed yet curious physical form.
The other two photos were taken at a tram station and a semi-open corridor. In the full-body photo standing in front of the train platform, the white tram in the background was intentionally included in the composition. This modern urban transportation scene perfectly fits the series' background setting where technology and daily life intertwine. When a gentle breeze blew by at that time, I naturally tidied my hair to make the styling look more casual and natural. The wired earphones worn on my ears were a small prop stealthily added to simulate the character's habit of listening to music on the way to and from school. Whether it was crouching in front of the equipment for a close-up or standing at the edge of the platform for a full-body shot, every effort was made to keep the entire frame clean, bright, and energetic.
Natural light served as the main light source for this photoset. No particularly complex lighting setup was used, primarily relying on the diffuse reflection of the cloudy weather to create a soft texture. Because the combination of beige and gray on the uniform itself carries a strong school vibe, combined with the natural state of the model in the frame, the post-processing only slightly unified the color temperature to highlight the layer relationship between the portrait and the background. For the details of the gear, such as the length of the slouch socks and the creases of the pleated skirt, every effort was made to align with the character setting. In the full-body photo next to the rooftop railing, leaning slightly against a pillar on bent knees while looking at the phone looks completely like someone waiting for friends after school or idling away time. I feel that this off-guard profile and head-lowered movement instead display the character's softer side better than a staged pose. The location choice at the tram station counts as a highlight of this set; the tactile paving at the platform edge, the distant mountains and greenery, and the green signal light that just happened to light up form an excellent sense of depth.
Looking back at this group of photos, there was no deliberate pursuit of overly exaggerated movements or expressions; rather, records under a casual cosplay state fit the character's temperament better. The seriousness when operating instruments, the daydreaming while waiting for the train, and the casualness of listening to music under the eaves—these details assemble into my complete interpretation of this character. Although the entire shooting process was not easy, the moments captured under natural light and the relaxed neighborhood atmosphere were indeed highly meaningful. There is no heavy stacking of photography techniques; it's more about finding things the character would do within the scene and then pressing the shutter, leaving this comfortable feel of wearing a uniform on film.
