Spending a whole day on 35mm f/1.2 photography to capture Yutenji Nyamu, this set went from an isolation room to a Western restaurant, bridging a pretty wide span. The advantage of a large-aperture lens is showcased to the max in this kind of high-contrast and soft-light required environment, especially that air-cutting-like bokeh that pulls the character directly out of her environment. This time, the outfit mainly focused on a casual cosplay vibe. The purple short hair with straight bangs, paired with reddish-brown eye makeup and a wide black choker, aims to recreate her signature playful and straightforward aura. For the clothing, I chose a gray off-the-shoulder ruffled top, which retains the character's traits without looking too jarring in real life, carrying an overall cool color scheme. The two small plush dolls in the photos are also high-frequency props. One is green-haired with a red hat, and the other is a purple-haired little figure wearing an eye mask. They serve as perfect accents in the frame, neutralizing the serious feel in front of the lens. I also really love the one taking a selfie with a phone; the silver reflection of the phone and the shift in perspective, combined with the small doll in hand, makes it look exceptionally lifelike and relaxed.

This shoot experimented with two completely different scenes. One was in an isolation room covered in black sound-absorbing foam. This pitch-black acoustic environment actually has extremely high lighting demands. The on-site blue ambient light beautifully outlined the edges of the hair, highlighting the character's expressions and movement details. In this scene, I used 35mm f/1.2 photography to capture some high-angle compositions, like the one leaning on the table. Manually controlling the depth of field allowed the gray background behind me to transition naturally while rendering the texture of the purple short hair very softly. Utilizing the bokeh produced by the f/1.2 aperture, the texture of those acoustic foams transformed into soft color blocks in the background. Focusing on the eyes, the catchlight became exceptionally clear.

The other scene was a Western restaurant with a slightly vintage industrial style. With its warm brick walls and black leather sofas, the lighting leaned more toward daily life. In this environment, we recorded some scenes of having a meal, holding a knife and fork with a sizzling steak and cheese baked rice placed in front. A 35mm lens is perfect for snapshots in this kind of small indoor space, capturing both the fine details of the food and explaining the overall dining environment atmosphere. We caught a few dynamic snapshots of lifting a fork to eat, including the cute moment of biting the fork and looking at the camera. These movements give the character a more breathable, true-to-life state that happens in reality. In a restaurant with complex lighting, the lens can also beautifully capture a transparent and natural skin tone, offering highly delicate transitions between highlights and shadows. For a character like Yutenji Nyamu, this down-to-earth everyday feel is actually a crucial trait. Shooting through the whole set, the light and scenes coordinated seamlessly that day; the serenity of the isolation room and the lively daily life of the restaurant formed completely distinct visual experiences. Every time I shoot this style of photos, a lot of thought goes into the makeup, hair, and props, just to catch the moment closest to the character's soul in the photos. This set counts as a fairly complete everyday-oriented record of the character, fully showcasing Nyamu's playfulness and foodie traits.
