The convention photos from the New Lotus Anime Convention on August 3, 2024, have been fully compiled. This shoot features Tamamo no Mae from Fate/Grand Order. Since these were on-site convention photos, we chose to shoot next to the exhibition hall's glass curtain wall. Before shooting, I discussed the general composition ideas with photographer Xiaohei, aiming to utilize the venue's cool-toned rim lighting to bring out the fox spirit's slightly mysterious aura.
To match the character's design and outfit styling, I paired black thigh-high stockings with chunky platform high-heeled boots, which beautifully elongated the leg lines during low-angle shots. Combined with the fluffy tail and animal ears, the overall look created a striking visual contrast that felt both wild and elegant. The outfit itself is rich in detail—such as the gold straps, metal rings, and expansive black and light-blue ruffled tulle on the sleeves—giving a light, airy, and flowing visual impression while moving.
During this session, we deliberately sought out spots with flattering lighting, using a black metal step stool as a prop and support. Striking various straddling and leg-crossing poses on the stool not only added a bold presence but also flattered the leg proportions from multiple angles. In a crowded and noisy setting like an anime convention, slipping into the outfit meant instantly channeling Tamamo no Mae's languid yet confident demeanor. We pre-planned several poses beforehand; for example, sitting on the step stool lowered my center of gravity, which helped balance body proportions and easily showcased leg length.
We also incorporated Tamamo no Mae's talisman prop throughout the shoot, which greatly enriched hand gestures, prevented static framing, and yielded a remarkably high success rate for good shots. This setup demanded high precision with details, particularly securing the animal ears and styling the wig. Wearing these plush accessories atop a heavy wig and intricate attire in the convention's humid environment was certainly quite challenging. Wearing the black stockings is also worth noting: the snug black stockings paired with rigid boots tested leg contours while complementing this commanding, queen-like presence. For the final visual outcome, however, every bit of effort was worth it.
Shooting at the New Lotus Anime Convention this time was a wonderful experience. Although the venue lighting was somewhat harsh, the advantage was that it remained easy to control. In fact, these cool-toned lights accentuated the texture of the black outfit even better, perfectly aligning with the character's mysterious nature. Through this set of photos, I hope everyone can feel that state of total immersion into the character's heart. Huge thanks as well to the staff who assisted with holding lights and crowd control; smooth teamwork made this complex convention shoot remarkably efficient. The convention experience was fantastic and granted me a much deeper appreciation for this Fate/Grand Order character.
