[Castorice cosplay] Starry Night and Flower Sea of Amphoreus — The Serene Shadow of the Phantom Butterfly

This Castorice cosplay photo set took about two weeks of preparation from finalizing the concept to the actual shoot. The shooting environments were divided into two main scenes: an expansive sea of red and white cosmos flowers, and a dark starry sky set built inside the studio. In my daily shoots, I am quite dedicated to crafting atmosphere; whether capturing candid moments in outdoor landscapes or playing with light and shadow in the studio, I always strive to find that state closest to the character's lore—serene yet with a touch of delicate fragility.

Regarding costume preparation, I had it custom-made by a tailor. Castorice's character design in Honkai: Star Rail features many elements resembling white petals and butterflies. To match this ethereal lightness, I had high standards for the skirt's layering: several layers of stiff tulle were used underneath to provide volume, while the outer layer used fine chiffon, allowing the skirt to flutter naturally in strong outdoor breezes. For the headwear, we crafted that black thorny crown accented with small white flowers. The wig had its bangs and sideburns carefully trimmed to fully reveal the elf ear props, bringing the silhouette closer to the character image. What satisfied me most was the pair of white butterfly-shaped gauntlets and claw rings; the metallic joint details combined with translucent wing decorations looked striking not only in empty-handed poses, but also blended seamlessly when interacting directly with the butterfly prop, perfectly rounding out this Stocking outfit.

The first set of photos was shot in the real flower sea. Honestly, the hardest part of shooting in flower bushes wasn't finding angles, but managing mosquitoes—shooting until dusk, we inevitably ended up with several bites. On site, we used high-power strobes as the key light; because the ambient light was very dim, the exposure balance between the face and the outdoor scene required precise control. The photographer used a classic lighting setup, letting the light fall from a 45-degree angle from the top diagonal. This not only illuminated facial features and made the subject stand out from the dense flowers, but also preserved the dimensional depth of the cosmos background. When shooting with the bouquet, I stood waist-deep in the flower sea holding a bouquet arranged on-site. I deliberately picked flowers with warm orange tones, aiming to use their color to balance the cool black, white, and purple dominance of the costume, injecting more life and immersion into the frame (also open for Meizhou photoshoot booking inquiries).

The second scene transitioned into the studio starry night series. The shot sitting on a mossy rock holding a staff was mainly challenging in lighting and prop balance. The blue ambient glow was simulated by placing fluorescent props at my feet, paired with high-power cool-toned spotlights focused on my body to create a dreamy, icy ambiance. The starry sky behind was created using a pure black backdrop combined with post-production galactic composite panning. While shooting, I had to pay close attention to upper-body posture and eye placement, ensuring the upward gaze reached the exact right elevation. I rarely handled such a long staff in previous shoots; although the staff material was relatively light, maintaining stability while holding it required constant control of the center of gravity, taking quite some time to find the ideal grip point.

When portraying this character from Honkai: Star Rail, Castorice felt to me like an existence bearing subtle sorrow yet holding deep inner resolve. Therefore, during the shoot, I restrained my poses rather than using exaggerated, dynamic movements—opting instead to sit, lower my head, or hold that butterfly prop before my eyes, striving to convey a cool yet tender presence through gaze and posture. Cosplaying this kind of character truly tests one's patience: wearing a wig, ear accessories, and a heavy petticoat all day was physically demanding, but seeing the shots emerge on screen made it completely worthwhile. Throughout the entire process, the team shared great synergy. Both the evening breeze in the flower sea and the galaxy in the studio breathed a distinct soul into this Anime cosplay work.
