This time, I shot a New Year Qipao custom-concept set with Ruan Mei. We chose a wooden corridor with a very retro vibe as the location, where the red carpet and warm yellow lighting perfectly matched our outfits. The piece I'm wearing is a custom-made red modified qipao embroidered with gold thread patterns, paired with a white faux-fur shawl and a pearl chain. Holding firecrackers and red knot props, the overall look is incredibly festive. Ruan Mei's outfit features subtle patterns on a blue base, giving her a more calm and elegant aura, creating a perfect red-and-blue contrast between the two of us.
During the shoot, I kept thinking about how to bring out Sparkle's playful and vibrant nature. So, for the poses, I intentionally stood on one leg or raised my hands to play with the firecrackers. Combined with the red eyeshadow and makeup details, I hoped to recreate some of her lively energy from the game. The wig features twin-tails with that iconic fox mask headpiece. The mask even has little bells that jingle when I move, which made the shoot quite fun.
This was an attempt to combine the character with festive elements. For post-processing, I tried my best to preserve skin texture and environmental lighting without making too many exaggerated changes. Since it's the New Year, the vibrant, booming atmosphere had to be spot on. The geometric patterned carpet on the floor and the wooden staircase in the background also added a lot of depth to the images.
Working together with Ruan Mei went very smoothly. Her styling and aura really fit her character perfectly, and the camera caught many natural expressions during our interactions. It took about half a day to shoot this whole set. The makeup, hair, and props were all fully prepared in advance, and I think the final photos turned out quite well. I hope everyone viewing these photos can feel this festive and joyful atmosphere—this is exactly how Honkai: Star Rail cosplay enthusiasts should celebrate the New Year!
