[Topaz Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail — Shining Moments at the Anime Convention

On the third day of the Firefly ACG Expo, I brought this Topaz cosplay work to the venue.

Collaborating with photographer Keke this time, we experimented with several different shooting styles within a limited space. The materials for the overall costume were chosen with care: the combination of a white shirt and a black shiny leather jacket, paired with a red lapel featuring geometric patterns, creates a strong textural contrast. The golden badge and tassels on the chest are detailed highlights that required careful positioning before putting the garment on.

The wig features a mix of silver-white hair with pink highlights, which, paired with blue contact lenses, makes the character's gaze pop in front of the lens. To reflect the character's uniquely capable demeanor, separate black leather gloves were chosen for the hands and secured at the wrists with light blue straps, ensuring freedom of movement while adding layers. As for the lower body, the white leg ring and metal chain on the thigh visually echoed the red-and-black block high boots, with the overall lines and tailoring rendered beautifully under the booth spotlights.

At the Firefly ACG Expo venue, the choices of background props were quite diverse. The first set featured a reflective metallic curtain paired with colorful cords, posing in a dynamic stance with open arms; the colorful cords weaving around the outfit naturally brought a casual tension. The second set used yellow-and-black caution tape under the venue's abundant lighting, where stepping over and weaving through created an authentic convention atmosphere. The third set combined white gauze curtains with orange-yellow floral arrangements—a relatively serene scene where holding flowers showcased a gentler, more introverted side of the character. For each scene, I tried different expressions and states, striving to express Topaz's temperament as naturally as possible.

There were certainly some challenges during the shoot, such as cluttered venue lighting that required the photographer to control the angle of fill lights with high precision. Fortunately, Keke was remarkably patient, constantly communicating pose choices and light placements with me, resulting in raw shots that were almost all ideal straight out of the camera. While adjusting costume and wig details on site, many fellow fans came over to say hello; this atmosphere of offline interaction is truly irreplaceable by anything online.

Regarding this photo set, I am personally quite pleased with the captured expressions. Even in a relatively noisy environment like an anime convention, precise Cosplay photography framing and focal length managed to deliver crisp, textured close-ups. From the tranquility of holding a rose and looking down to softly smell it, to the playful interaction with the caution tape, to the focused gaze looking back into the lens, every split second was a unique spark created by the character in this venue.

I feel that doing cosplay is not merely recreating a character's outward appearance, but a journey of repeatedly experiencing the world they belong to. Putting on this costume, I naturally immersed myself into that traveler-like state, discovering the most suitable way to express myself before the camera. From makeup and hair styling to shooting and the final Convention photos, I enjoyed every bit of this convention trip. Afterwards, I also want to express my gratitude to photographer Keke for his dedicated work, capturing so many vivid moments amidst the bustling venue crowds. May these photos serve as a little record of this Firefly ACG Expo, and I look forward to experiencing even more possibilities for this character in the future.
