[Altria cosplay] Fate/Grand Order Casual Outfit Showcase: Recreating the King's Demeanor

For this Altria cosplay casual photoshoot, styling the wig took the most time. The golden hair required trimming into precise curves; the blunt bangs needed to cover the forehead without obscuring the eyes, which took about three rounds of trimming and adjusting before I was satisfied. The sideburns also had to frame the cheeks smoothly. To fit the character, I chose green colored contact lenses, adjusting their position carefully to make sure the catchlights captured that clear, detached gaze. For eye makeup, I deliberately elongated the outer corners with eyeliner and added false eyelashes to enhance gaze depth, finishing with a light pink eyeshadow swept under the eyes to add a touch of vitality without looking pale. Contouring along the nose bridge and cheekbones gave my features defined structure, projecting a strong, gallant presence.

As for the wardrobe, I chose a crisp, structured fabric for the white shirt, as a floppy collar looks lifeless. After cleaning the collar, I ironed it thoroughly with a garment steamer to eliminate any wrinkles for the shoot. I also tested several ways to tie the deep blue ribbon, ultimately settling on the neatest bow shape that best complemented the character's noble aura. Sleeve cuff width was another consideration—when raising my arms, I had to watch the angles to avoid awkward fabric bunching.

We selected a minimalist off-white and gray backdrop for this shoot, which places the highest demands on lighting control. The photographer used softboxes; even a slight shift in the light's angle drastically altered the shadows. The first backward-glance pose actually required significant core stability—straightening my spine, engaging my core, and looking back while keeping a steady, focused gaze to project that regal confidence and effortless authority. In the second front-facing portrait, hand placement was key: resting my fingers lightly on the ribbon tie, keeping the body relaxed, and casting a subtly scrutinizing gaze. Throughout shooting these two photos, I kept the character's backstory in mind, immersing myself psychologically to sharpen my focus.

In post-processing, I avoided over-smoothing the skin, retaining natural pore and skin textures while subtly shifting color tones toward cooler temperatures. This prevented the image from feeling overly warm, aligning closer with the crisp, cool atmosphere of the Fate universe. Combined with the neutral gray backdrop, I slightly brightened facial highlights and softened shadow contrast to draw focus directly to the eyes. The overall composition ended up clean and refined, perfectly suited for the character.

The day before the shoot, I also prepared the prop—Excalibur. Though it didn't appear in these two particular shots, holding its weight in hand truly helped me step into character. Indeed, with every cosplay portrayal, the biggest challenge lies not merely in makeup and costuming, but in capturing the soul of the character. Transitioning from initial scramble to mastering styling, expressions, and lighting control brought many valuable insights. The final photos serve as a rewarding testament to all that effort. This experience deepened my understanding of Altria; her noble, resolute aura was truly forged step-by-step before the lens.
