Bringing this heavy suit of armor and greatsword to an outdoor grassy field perfectly captured the classic aura of Altria from the Fate series. For this shoot, we specifically sought out a colossal ancient tree and an open grassy slope. The lighting shifted dramatically throughout the day—dappled tree shadows under strong sunlight transitioned into crisp, luminous skies as thin clouds passed over.
The greatest hurdle during this shoot was physical endurance. The dress and metal armor plates carried substantial weight, which, combined with the sword, made walking across the grassy terrain quite exhausting. To convey the majestic dignity of standing with sword in hand, maintaining an upright, poised posture was essential while coordinating with photographer Dong Ci Lang for focusing and metering, often requiring me to hold a single pose frozen for several minutes.
The initial panoramic shots utilized a wide-angle lens, incorporating the ancient tree and distant rolling hills as the backdrop to magnify the character's solitude and mythic grandeur through the environment. When capturing the three-quarter back-view frame, a gentle breeze swept through, naturally lifting the hem of the dress into an elegant arc; I only needed to stabilize my center of gravity and use the sword to maintain balance. The photographer suggested a slight head tilt, which yielded an effect that matched the regal temperament of the outfit wonderfully.
Capturing dynamic sword-swinging action later on proved demanding, requiring repeated running strides and full-arm swings combined with foreground blur to evoke kinetic power and momentum. Though my arms ached, reviewing the raw footage revealed incredible dynamic tension. The final frames resting beneath the tree captured the long-awaited Tyndall effect—sunbeams piercing through the dense canopy to wrap the subject in warm light, evoking an immediate sense of serene calm. Wearing the armor and carrying the sword into nature felt like a unique tribute to the character, making this outdoor cosplay experience truly rewarding.
