[Megumi Kato Cosplay] A Girl in Cherry Blossom Season at Manhua Manor: Sweet Style of Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend

Regarding this Megumi Kato Cosplay set, the shooting location was chosen at Chengdu's Manhua Manor. It happened to be peak cherry blossom season; although it was overcast, the soft diffused light was quite friendly for Portrait photography, avoiding high-contrast, harsh facial shadows that are difficult to manage. The camera gear used was a Sony A7M4 paired with a Sigma 85mm f/1.4 lens—in a cherry blossom grove like this, the wide aperture had a clear advantage, easily producing smooth background bokeh. Props and accessories included a white beret, a red cardigan, White stockings, and red leather shoes. The red-and-white color contrast popped vividly within the pink cherry blossom garden, offering a clearer visual focal point than a simple pink-and-white palette.

During shooting, cherry blossom branches were used as foreground elements to add depth and layering. The key to this set was capturing the character's quiet, unassuming nature, so the posing direction avoided exaggerated body movements. Instead, she mostly pinched a flower branch lightly, tilted her head toward the camera, or stood in place holding her bag. Due to the framing characteristics of the Sigma 85mm focal length, full-body compositions were deliberately kept centered to prevent the head or legs from hugging the edges. Because overcast light lacks strong directionality, we locked the white balance to maintain color consistency and slightly lowered the exposure compensation while metering to protect highlight details on the white lace dress and White stockings.

The post-processing steps mainly revolved around color balance: tweaking the hue and luminance of the pink blossoms to create a low-saturation dreamy aesthetic, and lowering the brightness of the background green grass to enhance the subject's prominence. We also calibrated skin tones toward a cooler alabaster white to build a cool-warm contrast against the red cardigan. Selective sharpening was applied to the fabric texture of the White stockings to strengthen the color coordination between shoes and dress. Because overcast days result in low contrast, we lifted shadows to add a soft, Japanese-style muted texture. Although the weather wasn't ideal, the harmony between location and styling delivered very satisfying results for this Sakura Photograph.

Before shooting, I discussed Megumi Kato's personality in Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend with the model, so the captured snapshot angles were restrained—not emphasizing grand movements, but simply standing there taking in the spring air. When pointing the lens at her, her gaze carried that subtle, innocent look, matching the long hair and beret look impeccably.

This photo set was shot at an 85mm focal length, balancing both half-body and full-body shots nicely. Beneath the arcade-like canopy of cherry blossom trees at Manhua Manor, the branches formed natural framing, elevating feminine elegance. This shooting experience made me realize that overcast days are actually well suited for this kind of 2D Portrait photography—harsh direct sunlight can disrupt soft aesthetics, whereas reasonable color grading in post ensures White stockings and red shoes won't clip into crushed blacks or blown highlights, leaving plenty of leeway in post-processing.
