This set of photos was completed with photographer JiuJiuJiuShiYue at Kasumi Studio, themed around a cool, serene school aesthetic. The set design was kept minimalist, utilizing only a solid-colored backdrop and a set of classroom desk and chair props to better focus visual attention on the subject. Portraying Rem (Rem cosplay), the iconic blue hair and the blue-and-white Gymnastics uniform served as the core of this styling.
In terms of outfit, I specially selected a blue-and-white short-sleeved sportswear top and navy shorts with white stripes, paired with pure white thigh-highs (White stockings). The White stockings are a focal point of this look and a detail that really tests shooting precision. During the shoot, special attention was paid to the fit of the stockings, minimizing wrinkles to make the leg lines look smoother. The White stockings emitted a subtle sheen under the lights, which, paired with natural skin softness, enriched the overall visual depth.
For posing, I challenged a single-knee kneeling pose on the desk. This was actually quite difficult: my right leg had to support my entire body weight straight, while my left leg knelt bent on the desk as I looked back over my shoulder toward the camera. Because the Gymnastics uniform is relatively loose-fitting, leaning forward could easily affect the drape of the clothes, so the photographer constantly guided me to adjust my upper body tilt and waist twist, showcasing leg lines while keeping movements natural and fluid.
During the shoot, the photographer mastered the lighting brilliantly; the cool-white lighting gave the image a luminous translucency, harmonizing wonderfully with the blue hair and White stockings. This clean color palette perfectly brought out the character's refreshing side. Although as a cosplay, the outfit was a snug fit that felt slightly restrictive when posing, it was totally worth it for the superior visual outcome.
As a passionate cosplay enthusiast, I've always felt that Cosplay photography is quite a physical workout. Not only must you keep expressions vivid, but you also have to find the perfect angle across dozens of shutter clicks. Both my gestures and expressions reached a satisfying state this time, and compared to past practice, I felt much more relaxed in front of the lens. The hardest part of the movement was kneeling on the desk with one leg, which really tested the muscle lines of my thighs and calves—requiring tight core strength and maintaining balance while turning my head. The degree of waist twist also had to be controlled to avoid looking stiff or creating awkward fabric creases.
Regarding hair and makeup, styling the short blue hair was somewhat time-consuming, requiring bundle-by-bundle curling adjustments to look natural. The base makeup was kept clean and translucent with light blush, blending seamlessly against the large white backdrop without looking out of place. The angle of cool-toned lighting was crucial for showcasing fabric textures: the white T-shirt easily overexposed while the blue shorts tended to crush into dark shadows, so the photographer adjusted reflector positions to ensure luminous clarity while preserving textural depth, especially the fine grain of the White stockings under highlights.
Although I'm not a professional model, throughout the shoot I gradually figured out my most photogenic profile angles and learned how to better control muscles to prevent stiffness. The glancing back motion truly tested my camera presence, requiring multiple practices to find the most natural expression and angle. The entire shooting process was highly efficient and offered many enjoyable experiences. Being able to bring this character from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- to life in a way that feels personally satisfying brings me immense joy.
